Details from a government source (might be paraphrased): Hiromi was last seen selling puppets for the Unification Church on Fort Myers Beach. The last person to see her was at Dino's Restaurant at 6 pm.

Last contact: July 10th, 1986 (Thursday); one source said she disappeared on July 11th

Last location: Fort Myers, Florida at Dino's Restaurant which was near 11500 San Carlos Boulevard. Generally, said to be missing from the Fort Myers Beach area. On the night she disappeared she was also around a business called Dodge's Gas and Convenience Store at Summerwinds Court and San Carlos Boulevard (26.501128, -81.943422)

The best address that I could find for Dino's Restaurant, of which the parking lot is considered to be her last known location, was the address of a business that claimed it was right beside Dino's Restaurant. Please see the classified advertisement below. This would only be about a 1.1 miles from Summerwinds Court and San Carlos Boulevard.

Has Hiromi Kazuni been found?

Hiromi Kazuni's missing person case did not receive a lot of attention. But one thing I noticed while researching this case was that the weights and heights were off between media coverage and NamUs. It's not clear which one to go with but the media reported her as 5'8' and 140 pounds while NamUs has her four inches shorter and some 25-30 pounds lighter. The two bodies would look very different and might lead to very different estimates if she is a Jane Doe somewhere.

July 16th, 1986. News-press.

• The puppets she was selling were Garfield puppets.
• She also had a large bag.
• Her pink blouse was described as bright pink.
• She may have been going door-to-door.
• That she might have left the church voluntarily was suggested in early journalism but later foul play was suspected.
• Dino's Restaurant was closed for the summer (ie. she was not a customer there).

• In some ways, this sounded like a parking lot abduction more than anything as she seemed to be last seen in one. However, the church that she was a member of has been described as a cult. I wondered if her "predetermined route" made her fairly easy pickings for someone who knew she would be walking across a parking lot of a closed restaurant at a given time. Who predetermined her route is a good question in this case, I think.

Unidentified Woman UP116037: Found in Palm Bay, January 1985, Could She Be Sandra Faye Thompson?

UP116037 is an unidentified Jane Doe whose body was found on January 17th, 1985 in Palm Bay, Florida. The details, as per her NamUs profile at the time of writing, were as follows:

• "Remains found wrapped in a blanket in a remote area of Palm Bay, FL."
• GPS opened to "28°02'04.1"N 80°35'19.2"W" (likely in the area of where she was found)
• Partial skeletal remains
• Female
• White/Caucasian
• Adult pre-30
• 24-28 years old
• Thought to have died in 1984
• Thought to have been dead for six months when discovered
• 62-64 inches tall (5'2" to 5'4") (estimated)
• 95-105 pounds (estimated)
• Clothing: bathrobe/housecoat found near the body

Looking at the details above, it's the clothing that stands out. What does it mean for someone to be found dead with, presumably, her bathrobe/housecoat nearby? For me, that's someone who was abducted from her home by an intruder or someone who was killed by someone she lived with. 

The fact that only partial skeletal remains were found is significant, in my opinion.

I did find some journalism on this Jane Doe. It said she may have been decapitated. 

This is important when it comes to the height of the individual. I would think it would be harder to estimate the height of a Jane Doe who had been decapitated, even if you had all the body parts. If you are working on this case, I think you should use a broad estimate for a height range.

Back in the first half of the 1980s, we were in the time frame before DNA became a powerful tool for identification. Back then, dental records were one of the ways to identify a Jane Doe. A Doe who was decapitated may have been altered in that way to separate her dentals from her body and thereby inhibit identification in a time where DNA wasn't yet fully developed. However, I found that this was probably not the case with this Jane Doe, a point I will return to.

March 7th, 1985. Florida Today.

The original journalism at about the time of discovery estimated her age to be between 30-47 years old. That is in counter to the current information at NamUs. Furthermore, I found an article that said that the body was found "four miles west of Interstate 95 and one mile south of Malabar Road" (January 22nd, 1985/Florida Today). A street named "Savery Street" was associated with the discovery location. On modern maps of the area, I could find only "Savery Road."

This woman's remains were thought to be related to two other discoveries in the area at about the same time. I clipped the entire article below, which was published on March 7th, 1985 in Florida Today (page 1B).

The remains appeared to have been interfered with by a dog. Furthermore, the woman who owned this dog discarded the skull for some reason. That would suggest that the murderer of this woman did not separate the skull from the body but rather this dog did.

Other details:

• The bones were found by a couple who were interested in real estate in the area.
• The bones were originally thought to belong to an elderly man.
• The bones were described as "scattered across the vacant lot" in one article (Jan. 19/1985 Florida Today; Page 21).
• Foul play seemed to be suspected from the start.
• The remains were found near some trees and bushes, which suggests to me that someone was trying to hide them to some extent.
• Several cigarette butts were found on the street in front of the body's location.
• A Websleuths.com member (username SimsGuy67) has suggested Sandra Thompson as a candidate for a rule out. At first glance, I could see how some details added up.

Angela Caroline Hartmann - Missing Since August 1983, last thought to be in Calgary, Alberta

Missing Person: Angela Caroline Hartmann

Details from a government source (might be paraphrased): Angela traveled across Canada with plans of going from Ontario to Vancouver, BC. According to the case file, Angela hitchhiked by herself. She was to meet her parents in San Francisco, CA but never showed up. Postcards were received by family and friends up to Calgary, Alberta in August of 1983. Angela was born in the Bay Area and was scheduled to attend college in Ontario, CA in September.

Note: I believe the college in "Ontario, CA" should be taken to mean Ontario, California as opposed to Ontario, Canada.

Last contact: August 22nd, 1983 (Monday) (the MP sent a letter that was postmarked on this day)

Last location: Calgary, Alberta, as suggested by postcards. Her whereabouts have been associated with a Calgary youth hostel. My guess is that she was at the hostel at 516 7th Avenue SE in downtown Calgary, where a hostel has stood for about five decades now.

Has Angela Caroline Hartmann been found?

Angela Carolina Hartmann remains missing. Her case was uploaded to NamUs in 2024. One thing that stands out with this case is her last known location. It has been inferred to be Calgary, Alberta as evidenced by postcards she sent to family members. Her NamUs profile says she is missing from San Francisco but readers should not mistake that as her last-known location.

What stands out with this case is that Angela Hartmann was a hitchhiker. That method of travel has produced scores of missing people over the decades. It is hard not to consider her case in conjunction with the fact that she went missing on a hitchhiking trip across Canada.

This case did make the newspapers in Alberta. The Red Deer Advocate had a brief profile of her case about a year after she went missing. As stated, there had been a couple of tourists in the fall of 1983 who had been shot. That article is from August 17th, 1984 and I snipped it below.

Angela Hartmann was in Quebec City in early August, as evidenced by a letter she sent to her mother. That letter had a postmark of August 6th, 1983. On August 22nd, 1983, she sent a letter to a man who ran a hostel in Peterborough, Ontario. It's this letter that placed Hartmann in Calgary on the date of the postmark. The MP had left belongings in Peterborough.

I do know Calgary well. Furthermore, I used to be a hostel patron. My guess is that she stayed at the youth hostel now known as the HI Calgary City Center. It is still around and I last stayed there in 2009. Looking at historical archives, it reportedly was scheduled to be opened in February 1976 and would have been open in 1983, I'm sure. Calgary may have some modern hostels but this is the only one I can think of that has been around for decades.

Debra Kay Manial -- Missing Since December 1982

Missing Person: Debra Kay Manial

Details from a government source (might be paraphrased): Manial was last seen at the Indersol Tree farm in Dobbins with a group of friends cutting down Christmas trees. When the group was getting ready to leave Manial walked in front of the group, never to be seen again.

Last contact: December 19th, 1982 (Sunday); went missing in the morning, reported missing at noon. I see some sources stating that she went missing on December 12th. However, NamUs says December 19th. Also, the journalism starts on Monday, December 20th and states she went missing on Sunday, presumably the most-recent Sunday or else they would specify.

Last location: Dobbins, California. Specifically, Yuba River area, east of Dobbins. Near the Indersol Tree Farm, according to NamUs. This tree farm was called Ingersol Tree Farm from other sources. Also, journalism mentioned a place called Bullards Bar dam.

Age when Debra Kay Manial disappeared: 29 according to NamUs, 28 years old according to early journalism. However, 29 appeared to be the correct age.

Birthdate: December 6th, 1953 (source: DoeNetwork)

The age in the journalism appears to be wrong.
She recently turned 29 as of her disappearance date.

Has Debra Kay Manial been found?

I researched the missing person's case of Debra Kay Manial tonight. From what I gathered, she and eight friends (nine people total) went out on a Sunday morning to find a Christmas tree. On their return to their vehicle, Debra walked ahead of the group for some reason. She has not been seen since and was reported missing at about noon on that day. The way it read, she must have been last seen sometime between 11am and noon on December 19th, 1982.

There was a large search for her. However, there were both rain and snow storms in the time frame that followed. The area was considered dangerous for walking, which brings into play the chance that she slipped down a slope. 

Debra Manial was not originally from the Sacramento area. That would suggest that she wasn't too familiar with the terrain. I think she was from Michigan as per the clipping below from The Saginaw News. There was an obituary for her mother in 2014 in The Saginaw News. In this obituary, it's clear that the family considers Debra to be deceased (May 15th, 2014, page 6).

I did feel like that may have happened to her and then the treacherous weather impeded the search efforts. However, other scenarios are possible, like abduction or self harm. The search for her was called off on December 28th, 1982 as it was thought that she must have perished by then, if she was in the rugged area.

What stood out in this case was simply that she walked ahead alone. I found no statements as to why she did that. What also stood out is the amount of detailed information there is of her clothing. Amateurs working on this case could try to match her clothing/accessories to clothing/accessories found on Jane Does in the area.

A couple of contradictions that I noted was that she was described as 28 years old in the journalism, while NamUs lists her as 29. Also, the tree farm was called "Ingersol Tree Farm" in journalism, not Indersol Tree Farm as per NamUs.

This case reminded me of some other missing person's cases on this website. There have been quite a few people who have gone missing while out with a group in a natural setting. In the cases I am thinking of, the person separated from the group and was then lost.

Trenny Gibson went missing while on a school hike. She separated from the group for a short time and has not been seen since. I looked at missing trail hikers quite extensively back in a 2021 article.

Ann Lorena Craig -- Missing Since April 9th, 1982

Missing Person: Ann Lorena Craig

Details from a government source (might be paraphrased): Ann Lorena Craig was last seen talking to 2 men in Quincy at Cinder Park on 4-9-82 (approximate) and never picked up a Social Security check after that. The 2 men were believed to be in a blue Ford truck.

Last contact: April 9th, 1982 (Friday) (date is considered approximate)

Last Seen: In Quincy, Illinois at Cinder Park. The best I could find for a location of this park was somewhere near 24th and Oak Street in Quincy. 

Age when Ann Lorena Craig disappeared: 49

Sex: Female

Height in inches: 62

Weight in pounds (lbs): 90

I didn't find a missing person's report in online journalism. Furthermore, "Cinder Park" didn't appear anywhere in relation to Quincy, Illinois. I do wonder if the name of the park is wrong or no longer used. But it may be near 24th street and Oak Street. I did reach out to some online citizens who resided in Quincy long term to see if they were familiar with the name of the park or its location.

There was not a lot of information available on Ann Craig's disappearance. Online information only duplicated what NamUs provided. I would think someone would have to look at her family tree and find a relative who was willing to expand the details.

UP134470: Human Remains Found on October 13th, 1973 in New York

UP134470 is a Jane Doe whose body was found in New York State on October 13th, 1973. According to the early journalism after the discovery of the body, a fisherman found her. I worked on this mystery for a while tonight. First, here are the details according to her NamUs file:

• Estimated age: 20-40
• Sex: Female
• Ethnicity: White/Caucasian
• Height: 61"
• Weight: 109 lbs
• Location: Suffolk County, New York in the Long Island Sound, 4 miles north of Eaton's Neck near buoy 24c, 2 miles off the coast of Connecticut
• Body Found: October 13th, 1973 (Saturday) at about 9AM
• Hair: Black
• Eyes: Brown
• Clothes: As snipped below; one source said she had a wedding ring and a watch on
• Estimated date of death: thought to be dead only a short time, according to early journalism, maybe 2-4 days

The woman in the trunk was wrapped in chains and weighed down by an anchor, according to journalism from the day after she was found (Newsday/Nassau Edition/October 14th, 1973/Bill Mason, John MacDonald, and Tom Incantalupo). She had been "garrotted," according to the same source, as a strangulation method.

The initials on the clothing are interesting. Firstly, they could simply be the victim's initials. Some have suggested Hazel Alice Cross as being a candidate for this Jane Doe. She is a name to be aware of in relation to this case. However, there is a great distance to account for. Also, Hazel went missing in May 1973 and the Jane Doe was thought to have died in October 1973.

Personally, I do not think this Jane Doe is Hazel Cross. If she was went missing in May 1973 via abduction, then it's hard to explain how she lived five months after the abduction and was then murdered in underwear and clothing with her initials on it. I think someone murdered wearing clothing that they wrote their initials on would be someone who was summarily killed after being abducted.

Birthdate: July 19th, 1950. I think he was born July 19th, 1950 as per the snipped article below, which references his 11th birthday on July 19th, 1961.

Has Lawrence Anthony Feeley been found?

I did some research on this case tonight. There were not many hits in the newspaper database I use. However, I think I found information on this person's address and the names of close family members, if anyone needs it for further research then use the newspapers below.

Lawrence Anthony Feeley's name appeared as an exact match in June 25th, 1964 edition of The Signal (snipped below). It appeared as though he had graduated from junior high or middle school as the article noted that he was about to enter high school.

In the following newspaper clipping, I do think that I found his birth notice in the newspaper. Note that the father's name is spelled "Laurence" in this source. It's derivations like this (ie. Larry, Lawrence, Laurence) that can make keyword searching in newspaper databases difficult. That's especially the case when you have to decide whether to use a middle name, middle initial, and/or last name. Numerous different combinations arise in these cases. But anyone working on this case might find the address that Lawrence Anthony Feeley was born into handy (5841 Colfax Avenue, North Hollywood).

If there is journalism that pertained to this missing person's case, then it evaded my search terms tonight. I used newspapers.com on January 8th, 2025, and worth a look into further as more newspapers are added.

Researching Missing Persons: Historical Clues and Possible Matches

Attempt to Match

I would say that the closest match in NamUS would UP4441. This is an individual who had brown hair, was thought to be between 20-35 years old, and was found in Los Angeles County. This unidentified individual also matches the height fairly closely (one inch) and was thought to have died as early as 1976. There are some discrepancies but it's worth looking at closer, I think.
