New to NamUs - Adam Christopher Patterson (MP #42783)

Adam Christopher Patterson is new to NamUs at time of writing. However, he has been missing for about 2.5 years as of the publication date. Below, you'll find the case details as of March 27th, 2018, a day after his profile was uploaded to NamUs.


The circumstances surrounding his disappearance would likely make many think that he has been lost at sea. Adam is missing from Portland, Maine and he "is believed to have taken a water taxi (he was a licensed captain) out to sea. The boat was later located washed up on a beach in Kennebunk."

The over-land distance using highway travel from Portland to Kennebunk is just under 30 miles. Perhaps the nautical displacement or distance traveled is more relevant though. The beach that the boat washed-up on was called Parson's Beach as per news coverage from late 2015.


Patterson's last-seen time as per NamUs is November 10th. However, the news source above says he spoke to his wife at 1:30am on November 11th, 2015 over the phone. Security footage shows Patterson leaving the dock at 3:30am.


Commentary

The authorities believe Patterson to be dead based on weather conditions and the condition of the boat. Lost at sea could actually mean lost for all time. However, any human remains, even individual bones could be Patterson. If he was wearing footwear, then the shoes might preserve his feet for ages. However, ocean currents are tough to predict. Websleuths working on this case could look for any human remains that washed up on the eastern shore after the disappearance of Patterson.

The episodes tell of the missing person's case of Dario Cicolecchia, a boy in Switzerland who went missing in 1993. Importantly, this boy was found, his murderer was apprehended, and this murderer also made statements to the police about how he operated. I think there's a nugget of information that's worth extracting from this and using as food for thought in similar cases. Dario went missing after departing his home on a bicycle to go fishing. According to a Youtube video I watched , it was in the pilot episode. From Wikipedia, it was a special program that was aired before the series became the series that fans grew to love.
