Mary Leah Rodermund, a missing person, was last heard from on March 2nd, 1978 when she was 16 years old. I've included this case with the broad site tag "car found person missing." This tag refers to a case, of which there are many, where an individual's vehicle is found but the driver or owner is not heard from again. Mary Leah Rodermund has now been missing for 43 years as of the original publication date of this blog post.

What stands out with this case is that there was reporting of a ransom request. The family, in this case, was willing to pay the ransom but there were not any details provided on how to do that, according to the early news coverage. The early coverage also said that the girl was not put on the phone, however, much later reports state that there was a second call where she verified her well-being. If true, then that would make the time of her last contact late in the evening on March 2nd, 1978.

There appear to have been leads in this case. The article below mentions a vehicle that was in close proximity to the scene of the crime. Early in the investigation, there was interest in two or three adult males that were in a vehicle in the parking lot. Two possible suspects were described as 35-40-year-old men, "shabbily dressed," and driving a 1966-69 Chevy. After the article below, there are composite sketches of these suspects.

This case received daily coverage until about March 10th and then it was covered less often but still regularly appeared in local newspapers. Furthermore, there appeared to be a spat of kidnappings in the Morgan City area. The disappearances of Gordon Mark Cannella and Bridget Cantrell Sons were mentioned in conjunction with Mary Leah Rodermund as was the disappearance of Bertha Gould. Robert Hohenberger is mentioned as a possible link to these cases in journalist coverage.

Mary Leah Rodermund may be among the Jane Does of America. Accordingly, it's important to note what she was in possession of. She may have had the following articles when she disappeared: a brown shirt and sweater, khaki pants, brown loafer-type shoes, a burgundy purse, and a gold chain necklace. These items can be useful in expediting a match if the missing person is in a Jane Doe database. Unidentified persons are often profiled in conjunction with items or clothing that they were last in possession of.

Terri Ann Blue -- Missing From Fayetteville, North Carolina?

Alleged Missing Person: Terri Ann Blue

The area where the MP was last seen: Fayetteville, North Carolina, near the intersection of Murchison and Preston (source: CharleyProject).

VITAL DETAILS

Below is a table summarizing Terri Ann Blue's characteristics as per the latest NamUs data (accessed April 08, 2025):

EthnicityWhite / Caucasian
SexFemale
Age at Disappearance47 years old
Current Age64 years old
BirthdateJune 1960
Height5'5" (65 inches)
Weight155 lbs
Hair ColorBrown (brown/red per NamUs)
Eye ColorBlue
ScarsNone known
BMIOverweight at the time of disappearance

Terri Ann Blue, an alleged missing person, was last heard from on June 27th, 2007, when she was 47 years old. As of April 08, 2025, she has allegedly been missing for nearly 18 years. Her current age, if alive, would be 64 years old.

What stood out with this case was that, at the time of the original publication, it was the oldest case in NamUs regarding update-sorting for females, last updated on January 11th, 2011. There are older cases outright, but the lack of updates suggested it was very cold.

As of my latest check in 2025, the NamUs profile has been refreshed with more details, though the circumstances remain sparse. It simply states that she was "last seen June 27, 2008" (note: this conflicts with the 2007 date elsewhere, likely a typo on NamUs).

The updated NamUs profile now confirms her height as 5'5" (65 inches), weight as 155 lbs, and includes brown/red hair and blue eyes, but still lacks details on clothing, accessories, or distinctive features beyond that.

I previously found this person documented in Ancestry under her maiden name, Terri Ann Dubose. Ancestry listed addresses after her disappearance date, which I submitted to NamUs years ago. It’s still unclear what triggers an address update on Ancestry, so this could mean anything—or nothing. No confirmation has emerged from those leads as of 2025.

If someone that knew her personally can contact the site, indicating that she is still missing, that would be appreciated. You can post comments after the article for follow-up.

I still don’t recommend spending a lot of time working on this case. It remains strange—no Facebook groups, no news links, and minimal attention on NamUs beyond the basics. The conflicting last-seen dates (2007 vs. 2008) add to the confusion, but I’m sticking with June 27th, 2007, based on CharleyProject and earlier data.

Shannon Marie Hawkins -- Missing Since July 2010

Missing Person: Shannon Marie Hawkins
Last-contact date: July 31st, 2010 at about noon by Paul Hawkins, her husband
The area where the MP was last seen: St. Johns, Florida possibly at the 100-block of Nottingham Drive East in St. Johns

VITAL DETAILS

Ethnicity: White
Sex: Female
Age at time of disappearance: 35 years old
Birthdate: December 1974

Hair
: Red/auburn
Eyes: Brown
Scar: None known
Height/weight: 5-foot-5 and 135 to 140 pounds
BMI*: Shannon Marie Hawkins was in the normal range for BMI.
  • BMI is body mass index. It relates to an individual's height and weight.
Shannon Marie Hawkins, a missing person, was last heard from on July 31st, 2010 when she was 35 years old. This is a case where details are not included with NamUs. Accordingly, it's necessary to look at other sources in order to find information on this missing person.

According to one source, this person had a history of leaving her family home for long periods of time (staugustine.com). However, the best description of the events surrounding this person's disappearance was at CharleyProject.org. According to that website, this is a person that was having mental-health problems leading up to her disappearance. The following points should be noted of Shannon Marie Hawkins:
  • She was previously hospitalized for depression;
  • She had a history of suicide attempts;
  • Her husband felt that she was "uneasy" the last time he saw her;
  • She called a mental-health hotline the night before she disappeared;
  • She wrote in a personal journal that she wanted to commit acts of self-harm in a wooded area behind her home and expressed pessimism about living to see the age of 36.
I was interested in looking at the wooded area behind her home on Google Maps. I was able to find this missing person's exact street address. I am not publishing it here but I feel like I know the wooded area that she was talking about. It would be at Google Maps coordinates 30.080773011684176, -81.61199853938336.

It doesn't look that large but it seems like the area had several wooded areas, some larger and some smaller than the one directly behind her house. Furthermore, there are small lakes or ponds in the area.

What stands out with this case, is that she disappeared 11 years ago. If the clue to her whereabouts in her journal is true, then there is a question as to why she has not yet been found. However, my inclination is that she is, in fact, close to her home still.

One article I read at CBS News indicated that police dogs were used to search the area but to no avail. She did not take a vehicle with her so reasonable walking distance might be the best-continued search area. Even after police supposedly scour an area, it doesn't actually mean that a missing person isn't there. There have been many cases where missing people have shown up in an area that was already searched. However, I think she simply took a longer walk than what the police originally assumed.

Joseph Slaughter -- Missing From Richmond Since 2005

Details from NamUs**: "He was last seen visiting family on Bland St in June 2005. Slaughter did not have a regular routine."

Missing Person: Joseph Elsworth Slaughter
Last-contact date: June 1, 2005 (note, when NamUs uses the first of the month, sometimes it means at any point in the month; the last-seen date appears to be uncertain in this case as the "Details from NamUs" above suggest the entire time period is in play).
The area where the MP was last seen: Richmond, Virginia near Bland Street

Link to government source: NamUs #MP9961

Ethnicity: Black
Sex: Male
Age at time of disappearance: 66
Hair details: Black
Eye details: Brown
Scars: None known
Height/weight: 5-foot-9 and 195 pounds
BMI*: The missing person was overweight by BMI at the time of the last contact. The picture above does not appear to depict an overweight individual. This could be due to many different factors, however, I think Websleuths or amateur investigators should keep an open mind when comparing this individual to John Does and pay more attention to Joseph's other characteristics.

Joseph Slaughter was primarily associated with the area around Richmond, Virginia. He was last heard from on June 1, 2005, when he was 66.

At the time of writing, he was missing for over 15 years. When people are missing for this length of time or longer some of their distinctive characteristics may no longer be relevant as identifiers.

What stands out with this case, is that there are not a lot of details. Nor was there much media coverage that I could find.

CharleyProject had the missing person's middle name as "Elsworth." Furthermore, at that site, he was described as homeless at the time of his disappearance.
