The Average Missing Person Case According to AI: Insights from My Blog

The Following is NOT a True Case of a Missing Person. Rather, it is content generated mainly by Grok, xAI's artificial intelligence. I uploaded numerous cases from this site and asked Grok to produce an average case.

I did take some personal liberties in editing what it spat out. My own comments appear in hard brackets [like this]. Also, I inserted some sentences myself.

I would say that this sounds a bit humorous at times. But there is something to learn from it as well.

The Disappearance of Alexis Z. Harper: Missing Since 1985 (FICTION)

On a quiet evening in the late summer of 1985, 18-year-old Alexis Z. Harper vanished without a trace, apparently into thin air [Yes, "without a trace" always is the phrase that gets used or "into thin air." Shane]

Alexis Z., a young woman standing about 5’4” tall and weighing around 115 pounds, had a slender build, long blonde-brown hair, and striking blue-brown eyes. [You know, blue-brown eyes. Shane] She was Caucasian. [Sorry, will try to do cases involving non-Caucasian males a little more often. Shane]

Known for a burn scar on her left arm and a small tattoo on her upper back, she was last seen in a small town on the west coast of either Canada or the USA—a vague location reflecting the scattered geography of her life. [Not sure where this came from. Usually, there is a fairly definite last sighting of her. Shane]

Born in the mid-1960s to a working-class family, Alexis Z. had recently moved out of her family home, seeking independence, and was working a part-time job, perhaps at a fast-food joint or diner, while navigating the challenges of young adulthood. [Okay, so people go missing as young adults because they are still naive about the world at a time when they have to go full steam ahead into it, I guess. Shane]

Details of Her Disappearance

That night in the summer of 1985, Alexis Z. was last spotted around 9:30 PM. The details are hazy: some say she was heading to a bus stop after dinner with friends, but possibly she was planning to hitchhike home. Others claim she was leaving her residence or a casual hangout at a bowling alley or restaurant.

They described her clothing from that night. But the inherent contradictions from numerous eyewitnesses only befuddled matters.

Some said, she had a beat-up sedan from the mid-1970s—maybe blue or tan. She had borrowed it from her family.

Others said perhaps she was on foot, relying on public transit or a ride from a stranger. When it came to light that her parents' vehicle was missing, this provided an investigation starting point.

Why didn't they mention this pertinent detail before? The public raised an eyebrow at the alcoholic father just as police began looking for the car. When the image of the vehicle appeared on TV, local philanthropists then posted posters in public.

Hesitant witnesses eventually came forward. They recalled seeing her with someone—a vague figure, possibly a man in his 20s or 30s, driving a sporty car like a Camaro—or maybe she was alone, stepping into the night to run an errand or escape a restless home life. [Ahhh the beauty of consistent eyewitnesses. Shane]

Weeks later, her car—or what might have been her car—turned up abandoned near a vineyard, about 10 miles from where she was last seen. The vehicle was a riddle: mud-splattered, with two or three flat tires, and personal items left inside for some reason. Wherever she went, she didn't need her wallet anymore.

Some speculated vandalism, others a "Good Samaritan’s Ruse"—a predator tampering with the car, alerting her to the problem but only to lure her into danger. Alternatively, she might have ditched it herself, packed her belongings, and hitched a ride that went wrong.

The police found no signs of a struggle, but foul play was suspected from the start. Her BMI of around 20 suggested a healthy yet slight frame, not someone who’d easily vanish unnoticed. Apparently, it was easier to make her disappear than the car she was driving.

Police budgets were sparse those days -- a sign of the times. Young people often got up and left entirely on their own account. So Alexis Z.’s disappearance stumped authorities.

At 18, she was caught between youth and independence—too old to be dismissed as a typical runaway, too young for her fate to fade quietly. Newspapers ran a few stories on her birthday and then on the same date every year that marked her disappearance's anniversary. Concerned citizens shook their heads over the demise of society.

The newspapers quoted her parents, who accepted that she was probably dead but still wanted closure. They asked for anyone to come forward or for the killer who must have taken her to clear his conscience.

But was it a random predator? Yes, it probably was because there were no known serial killers in the area. Or was it though? Yes, probably? But really? There were some stupid theories, like alien abduction.

As the years passed, many looked back at her case occasionally. Twenty years later, in hindsight, it was clear that there were in fact serial killers in her neighborhood.

In fact, one lived next door to her, but he kept silent when asked, which meant he would not be convicted until a scientist finally looked at the car with a microscope and found traces of his semen in the back seat. The serial killer then claimed the sex was consensual.

All along, someone she knew had known something. But she was tied to risky associations with street people and a quarrelsome boyfriend. The rumors had swirled: a hitchhiking mishap, a deliberate abduction, or just bad luck on a dark road. She was still missing because serial killers don't talk unless there is something in it for them.

So investigators searched nearby landfills, vineyards, and wooded areas, even tracking dogs along bus routes, but no body was found. Theories multiplied: some pointed to the car’s condition—flat tires and mud hinting at an off-road disposal—while others saw it as a red herring, the result of weeks of neglect or her own abandonment.

Hitchhiking, a dangerous habit she’d picked up, was another possibility, especially given her recent move and limited means. DNA wasn’t widely used then, and physical evidence was scarce. A Jane Doe found years later—small-statured, with long hair—briefly raised hopes, but the timeline didn’t align.

Decades passed. Alexis Z.’s case grew cold, filed away in the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUs) or Canada’s Missing database with a case number and a fading photograph. Her family submitted DNA in the 2000s, hoping for a match, but none came.

The bowling alley closed, the serial killer died in prison after mocking authorities, the place where she was last seen became a memorial, and the world simply moved on. Everyone had their own problems, even if they wanted her to be found.

Yet, every so often, a blogger or websleuth would unearth her story, piecing together scraps from old newspapers: "Has Alexis Z. Harper been found?" the Internet searchers often typed in.

As of March 11th, 2025, the answer remains no. Alexis Z.’s story lingers in the shadows, a haunting echo of the thousands lost to time, their fates locked in silence.

Missing person: Melanie Jo Melanson
Last-contact date: October 27th, 1989 (Friday) late at night or early hours of October 28th, 1989
Disappeared from: Woburn, Massachusetts; last seen near the banks of Aberjona River in an area near Hill Street, off Montvale Avenue and a block off I-93.

Link to Government Source: #MP6393
Other Source: Charley Project

Ethnicity/Race: White
Sex: Female
Age at time of disappearance: 14 years old
Hair: Blonde/strawberry
Eye color: Blue
Height and weight at the time of disappearance: 5'3" and 105 pounds
Teeth: braces
Other: pierced ears

The case of Melanie Melanson, a one-time freshman at Woburn High School, is one that police had some optimism about in the years after she disappeared. That seemed to continue right up until about 2012. Melanie went to a party in an industrial area that was wooded and was not seen again. Charley Project offered this description:

"Melanie was last seen on the evening of October 27, 1989, at a party at an industrial park near the Woburn/Stoneham line, about a mile from her home in Woburn, Massachusetts."

I didn't find any news journalism coverage from the time of her disappearance. That doesn't mean it isn't out there, however, it wasn't in the database I searched. On that matter, I had more success with "Melanie Melanson" than "Melanie Jo Melanson."

The following snip is from September 11th, 1994. It quotes Police Chief Philip Mahoney at that time, regarding the Melanson case:

Sun, Sep 11, 1994 – 60 · The Boston Globe (Boston, Massachusetts) · Newspapers.com

The same article said that they got some information six months after she disappeared that indicated "she had been killed." At some points, there was speculation that she was a runaway. However, I think that should be considered an extremely peripheral possibility now that 32 years have passed.

One of the better articles I read regarding Melanie's disappearance was written by Yvonne Abraham in the May 6th, 2009 Boston Globe (B1). It made the following points:
  • she was last seen in a wooded area near "an unlovely industrial park" attending a teenage party that involved alcohol and drugs
  • there were about a dozen people at the party
  • the night seems to end with Melanie and two boys remaining at the party; these two boys initially said the other was the last to see her alive; of these two boys, one reportedly refused to give Melanie a ride home because he only had one helmet for his motorbike
  • dogs and police "recruits" were used for the search

Fri, Sep 25, 2009 – B2 · The Boston Globe (Boston, Massachusetts) · Newspapers.com

There seemed to be a new push in this case around 2009. That's when a bulk of news articles appeared on the topic of Melanie's disappearance. This minor spike in keyword hits lasted until about 2012.

In the November 2nd, 2009 edition of The Boston Globe there was an article that mentioned digging in the area that she was last seen and a promising new lead. However, that was over a decade ago now and nothing seemed to have materialized with regard to where she was last seen.

One article I read said a tipster suggested that her body may have been moved. That tip would suggest nervousness on the part of someone who knew where her remains were. In cases like this, it's difficult to know what to treat as genuine. If all the tips were true, it would call into question why the body has yet to be found.

On that matter, it may be that finding the remains in a wooded industrial area has proven elusive because of changes in the land over the decades. What someone remembers as the spot of her disappearance might not be off by a large margin several years later at the time of recollection. Furthermore, vegetation may have grown over her buried remains.

Someone looking at the land might not realize that a patch that was unvegetated in 1989 may now be covered. Noting that missing people are often found not far from where they were last seen despite 'extensive' searches, I would not take anything for granted in this case regarding ground zero. That's especially true given that the original searchers were described as police "recruits," which I'm differentiating from police officers.

The wooded and industrial area of the party seems to be the best place to continue looking. Besides cadaver dogs, which reportedly were used, metal detectors might yield clues.

Additionally, there is a question in my mind as to the possibility that her route home might be more fruitful than where she was last seen. Furthermore, there's the question of the two boys each seemingly deflecting attention to the other.

One question that's sociological in nature can be asked: what does it mean for an attractive teenage girl to go missing at the end of a party? That she went missing in such a sketchy area might point to local transients who used the wooded/industrial area for habitation.

However, the time frame at the end of a party involving young people might also be the time where romance is in the air. That also brings into play themes of rejection, frustration, and anger.

The social dynamics that one might speculate as associated with this missing person case are not promising when it comes to the prospects of finding Melanie Jo Melanson alive. There's the 'end of the party' social dynamics to consider in addition to the dangerous area that she may have had to walk home in -- at a dark time of night when she was just 14 years old. In my mind, amateurs or Websleuths trying to find a lead in this case for authorities should not incorporate the age-progression photos into their efforts. Those are useful with teenage runaways but there's only the slightest chance that Melanie Jo Melanson was such, in my view.

The chances of finding Melanie Jo Melanson are redeemed by the fact that this isn't a case where there aren't people working on leads. There is a private investigator that has worked on this case extensively. His name is Michael Garrigan. Furthermore, it has received major newspaper coverage in addition to plenty of efforts from amateurs.

Angela Green -- Missing in Kansas Since June 2019

Missing person: Angela Green
Last-contact date: June 19, 2019
Last-seen location: Prairie Village, Kansas -- possibly at the 7600 Block of Tomahawk Road
Link to Government Source: NamUs #MP65746
Ethnicity/Race: Asian
Sex: Female
Age at time of disappearance: 51 years old
Hair: Brown
Eye color: Brown
Height and weight at the time of disappearance: 5'9" and 116 pounds

This individual was last seen in June 2019, however, she was not reported missing until eight months later. The daughter of the missing person claimed that she was once told that her mother had died of a stroke in July 2019. Early guesses with this investigation had to do with the husband knowing something or Angela Green fleeing back to her home country of China.

I've wondered if the husband's story might be that she went to China in June and died of a stroke in July. Of course, there should be plenty of evidence to support this account of events if it is what happened or if something similar happened.

My thoughts are that if she did return to China, Websleuths or amateur investigators in North America won't be able to contribute much to this case. Furthermore, the eight-month gap between her disappearance and her discovery creates big problems.

I've also wondered if the height and weight for Angela Green is correct. 116 pounds at 5'9" does not seem to be in a healthy range.

Michael Frank Fullerton -- Missing From Seattle Since 1986

Missing person: Michael Frank Fullerton
Last-seen date: September 27th, 1986 -- maybe October 2nd, 1986
Last-seen location: Seattle, Washington -- car found abandoned on Capitol Hill
Link to Government Source: NamUs #MP11140
Ethnicity/Race: White
Sex: Male
Age at time of disappearance: 26 years old
Hair: Dark blonde/strawberry; wore a mustache
Eye color: blue
Height and weight at the time of disappearance: 6'2" and 185 pounds
Clothing: Street shoes
Other: Scar on one of his wrists; his jaw was cracked and healed in several places.

Michael Frank Fullerton went missing in the fall of 1986 and, make no mistake, he remains missing at the time of writing. He has a grave and that might confuse some of those looking into this case.

However, the grave is a memorial only and does not contain his remains. If you are searching on Find-a-grave and finding the same-name match and same-birth-year match for a grave and think his case is still active by accident, it's not. He's not in the grave at the time of writing.

Michael's vehicle was a silver and black sedan with Washington plates. It was found ten days after he disappeared at Capitol Hill. It's possible that he was seen on October 2nd and the finding of his vehicle would be after that, on October 7th, 1986.

When you read his profile information, you have to wonder if he was depressed: scars on wrists can be a clue to a suicide attempt. That circumstance and the fact that he has not been heard from in what is now 35 years has to make you wonder if finding him will mean finding a John Doe.

On that matter, when it comes to finding Michael, Websleuths and amateur investigators can focus on the details of the jaw area from his profile. In more scientific terms, the jawbones can be called "the mandible." Even after all of this time, if Michael's remains are found then his mandible or jawbone injuries and healings may be detectable in his skeletal remains. The same can't really be assumed regarding his wrist scar. Furthermore, someone looking at his remains might be able to tell that he had injuries to the mandible or jaw in life and these details might end up in his John Doe report. Accordingly, someone familiar with the John Doe reports in the Seattle area should keep the mandible injuries in mind.

Frank Arthur Cerimele -- Missing Since July 1969 All Over Again

Missing person: Frank Arthur Cerimele
Last-seen date: July 14th, 1969
Last-seen location: Youngstown, Ohio
Link to Government Source: NamUs #MP76180
Ethnicity/Race: White
Sex: Male
Age at time of disappearance: 21 years old
Hair: Brown
Eye color: Hazel
Height and weight at the time of disappearance: 5'10" and 150 pounds
Clothing: Blue or white button-down shirt; white bermuda shorts (not really meant for swimming, go down to your knee); something called "tongs" which might be taken to mean "thongs" which are flip-flop sandals
Vehicle: 1968 Pontiac Grand Prix

Frank's disappearance has an oddity in it. According to the case details at CharleyProject, this was once a closed case. However, it was reopened after just over 50 years.

Cerimele's car was found with the following details:
  • it was recovered at the International Bar at 1710 Poland Avenue in Youngstown, Ohio
  • the doors were open and unlocked
A missing person with a vehicle found that is not just unsecured but with doors left open might be taken to mean that something amiss happened at his vehicle. That seems to be the point that people have tried to make with this case: "Cerimele's loved ones stated he cherished his car and wouldn't have left it overnight in an unfamiliar place" (CharleyProject).

However, I don't see that as a major clue pointing to abduction because I think that a suicidal person might be indifferent to the state of his vehicle too. Furthermore, leaving a vehicle with doors open might be a call-for-help, something that suicidal people are known to do. I've looked at another missing person's case involving a located vehicle with doors open and argued that the open doors have something to do with a suicidal state of mind. It could be an attempt to call attention to oneself.

In Cerimele's case, I think the big clue is his footwear. They are described as "tongs" at NamUs but I am thinking they meant "thongs" which is another word for flip-flops/sandals. This kind of footwear would match his other clothing articles, which appeared to be relaxed in nature.

I don't picture someone using that kind of footwear to find a spot for suicide. If you were wearing flip-flops, you would not be planning on going too far. I think that if Cerimele was planning to commit suicide, then he would have been found near his vehicle.

His pictures look like mugshots, especially the side view. I wonder if he's someone in the wrong crowd with maybe that playing a role in an abduction.

Patricia Lorraine Gentle -- Missing From Redondo Beach Since 1973

Patricia Lorraine Gentle, from her NamUs photo (circa 1973).

Missing Person: Patricia Lorraine Gentle
Last-Contact Date: Sometime in 1973 (listed as January 1 in some sources, but this may be a placeholder—common when exact dates are unknown. I find this misleading, as she could have vanished that day, muddling the record.)
Last-Seen Location: Redondo Beach, Los Angeles County, California
Link to Government Source: NamUs #MP76904
Ethnicity/Race: White
Sex: Female
Age at Disappearance: 33 years old
Hair: Brown per NamUs, though the photo shows blonde—perhaps a wig or lighting effect
Eye Color: Brown per NamUs, but appears greener in the photo

Height and Weight at Disappearance: 5'4" to 5'5", 120 to 130 pounds
Based on her height and weight ranges, her Body Mass Index (BMI) at the time of disappearance is calculated to be approximately 20.6 to 21.6, indicating a healthy weight range according to standard health metrics.

Birthdate: Estimated between March 2nd, 1939, and December 31st, 1939
This range is calculated from her reported age of 33 in 1973, accounting for the January 1 date being a placeholder, meaning she was 33 at some point during that year, with her exact birthdate falling within this period based on possible disappearance dates throughout 1973.

Summary: I Found Nothing on This Missing Person

Patricia Lorraine Gentle disappeared in 1973, yet her case only hit NamUs on January 6th, 2021—48 years later. Official details are scant: NamUs says “unknown circumstances,” leaving a blank slate. For more, check the Websleuths forum, which had very little in terms of promising leads as of 2025. However, there was a family member active in the case. I’ve found no 1973 newspaper reports of her disappearance, which I found a bit odd for a populated area like Redondo Beach.

I did have a hard look at her, using 27 different combinations of her name. Feel free to work with those but then for a bit. But if you are finding nothing, then move on.

Ted Bundy, His Timeline, and Sotria Kritsonis' news -- Filling in a Gap

Author: Shane Lambert

Who really knows how many people convicted killer Ted (Theodore) Bundy disappeared? Conventionally, when he is looked at the number of victims that is mentioned is in the 30s. However, there could be scores more. Accordingly, his timeline is important to be aware of when it comes to missing person's cases.

The timeline for Bundy's life was looked at a number of years ago. the US Department of Justice commissioned the Ted Bundy Multiagency Investigative Team Report 1992. At the time it was called an "exhaustive documentation of Bundy's activities...in the hopes that Bundy's suspected participation in crimes other than those he confessed to can be clarified" (from the report's "Director's Comments).

The full report can be found here: Ted Bundy's Timeline (if the link goes bad, comment and I can email you a copy of the report). It contains major events in his criminal career, such as the time and places of his known abductions. Furthermore, it contains banal day-to-day events -- like where he bought gas.

In 2018 there was a news story from Kiro 7 News in the Seattle area. The topic of the story was a woman's recounting of an experience with Ted Bundy. She was named Sotria Kritsonis and the news piece is below.

Although it contains information regarding Bundy's double-abduction day at Lake Sammamish, there is information that was fresh as of 2018 and it could also be added to the Ted Bundy Multiagency Investigative Team Report 1992. Please, take a few minutes to review the video, feeling free to skip the parts about Lake Sammamish.

The news piece does not contain complete information. The exact date of Bundy's and Kritsonis's encounter is not mentioned, nor is the exact address. However, the time frame in question can be deduced, the location can be found, and certain other important probably-true assumptions can be made.

The time frame in question was described as the winter of 1972 in the news piece. That did make me wonder if we were talking about the late months in 1972 or the early ones. Technically, winter starts on December 21st and goes to March 20th so, as the only season that covers two separate calendar years, there's a bit of question as to what someone means when they say "winter of 1972."

In answering that, I think the story that Sotria Kritsonis is telling is for some time in the months of January, February, or March of that year. The news piece says that she was 22 at the time. At the tail end of 1972, she would have been 23 by my research.

Thus, the time frame in question is January to March of 1972 and that's actually an empty spot for Ted Bundy in the Ted Bundy Multiagency Investigative Team Report 1992. See the snipping below of that report which shows an entry on New Year's Eve of 1971 and then no entry until April 15th, 1972. The encounter between Bundy and Kritsonis appears to be somewhere in that gap and if we take her accounting as true, then it shows that he was active during this unknown period.

The location of Kritsonis's abduction would have been near the intersection of Rainier Avenue South and Orcas Street. The following still, taken from the Youtube video, shows her walking south on what would be the west side of Rainier Avenue South. She says she encountered Bundy at a place very near the point in the still below.

If we take everything she says as true, then there's something important to note. Bundy did not just happen upon her and offer her a ride. Kritsonis made a statement that would suggest that Bundy was familiar with her changing hairstyle. That suggests a degree of stalker behavior or it could just be that he saw her at the bus stop on many different occasions. Kritsonis claimed that she cut her hair about a week earlier so that would put Bundy in the area of Rainier Avenue South and Orca Street for a period of at least a week.

The news piece says that Kritsonis saw Bundy on television a year and a half later. It's not really clear what she would have been watching in the summer of 1973 regarding Bundy. Most of his known crimes are from 1974 onward.

Wynn Lindsey -- May Be Missing on Hawaii's Puu Ohia Trail

Author: Shane Lambert

All articles are subject to editing after the original posting.

Missing person: Wynn J K Lindsey
Last-seen date: April 1st, 2015
Last-seen location: Honolulu, Hawaii, I believe near Ernest Street and Lunalilo Street

Hikers that are planning to visit the Puu Ohia Trail could take a moment to review the case details of missing person Wynn Lindsey. This individual went missing in 2015 and his car, a 1999 Toyota Corolla, was found parked near this trail on Tantalus Drive. There's some question as to whether he entered the trail network or not.

In updating this article, I exchanged messages with the moderator of the Facebook group that profiles Wynn's disappearance. I deem such people to be knowledgeable of events, especially when they share a last name with the missing person. This individual, Maile Lindsey, offered the following pointers to add to this article:
  • 3 sets of police dogs went through the area and they were not able to pick up a scent.
  • Wynn had a flatscreen TV with him in the car when he left his house. Police found it placed in the front of the vehicle. Apparently, he was in the process of moving or finding a fixed address.
  • The police found his car in the area when they responded to a robbery in the vicinity of where the car was parked.
  • Wynn Lindsey knew sign language but was not deaf himself.

Ethnicity/Race: Caucasian with a swarthy complexion
Sex: Male
Age at time of disappearance: 44 years old

According to All Trails: "Pu'u Ohia (Mount Tantalus) is a 1.4 kilometer heavily trafficked out and back trail located near Honolulu, Oahu, Hawaii that features beautiful wild flowers and is good for all skill levels. The trail offers a number of activity options and is accessible year-round."

The trail was part of a large network of trails in the area. At 6'0" and 190 pounds, Lindsey appeared to be a fit individual, something Maile Lindsey confirmed as true. Accordingly, the search area would have to be large for this man.

If he went into the trail network with intentions of harming himself, then he would have been capable of covering a lot of ground before fatiguing. On the matter of possible suicide, Wynn Lindsey has been described as "emotionally distraught" (NamUs) at the time of his disappearance. However, in all cases like this, it's important to be open-minded to alternative scenarios.

His vehicle was a 1999 Toyota Corolla and it was found near the Puu Ohia Trail. The driver's side door was open when found. Inside the car were keys, his wallet, and his cellular.

NamUs # and Link#MP68842

That the driver's side door was left open is interesting, I think. It may have been the "call for help" that suicidal people are often known to make in the time frame before they act. This "call for help" is any action a depressed and/or suicidal person makes that might call attention to the fact that something isn't right. Deliberately leaving a car door open as you walk away from it might fit the bill.

However, it's also interesting that the police dogs were not able to pick up his scent. It makes you wonder if his car was taken there by someone else.

Certainly, this is a confusing case as your mind goes in separate ways at separate times. What's most fair to say is that the trail network that his vehicle was found near still has to be considered ground zero, in my opinion.

Hair: black but bald on the crown
Eye color: green

Ashley Summers -- Missing From Cleveland Since 2007

Author: Shane Lambert
Original Time of Writing: December 30th, 2020
All articles are subject to editing after the original posting.

Missing person: Ashley Nicole Summers (birthday: June 16th, 1993)
Last-seen date: July 4th, 2007 (a Wednesday) at about 6pm (At time of writing, NamUs says July 9th, 2007)
Where last seen: Cleveland, Ohio near West 96th Street and Madison Avenue

The case of Ashley Nicole Summers is one that might have a red herring. When a known child abductor (Ariel Castro) popped up as active in her neighborhood that lead was investigated but it did not turn up any evidence of what happened to Summers. Accordingly, her whereabouts remain a mystery.

One source on the topic, News 5 Cleveland, posted an article that contained information that would make you think that she is, in fact, safe (or was in the weeks after her disappearance): "Summers packed all of her clothes and took them with her. She reportedly called her mother one month after she went missing, telling her not to worry and that she would be okay" (July 11 2017/Bretton Keenan).

If that information is correct, then the runaway hypothesis carries a little more weight than normal. It is hard to picture a reasonable scenario where someone who isn't Ashley makes that phone call. If that phone call wasn't Ashley then it would have to be a person with a small conscience or someone with an interest in obstructing the investigation. Either scenario is possible but what a coincidence that such a person had a voice that sounded enough like Ashley's to make her mother a little bit of a believer.

But it's here that there is some weight added to the guess that Cleveland kidnapper Ariel Castro has something to do with Summers' disappearance. The phone call after the kidnapping sounds like the Amanda Berry case, one that Castro was responsible for.

According to that case's history, a man made a phone call using Berry's cellular about a week after she disappeared. This phone call contained comments that seemingly were meant to reassure the mother of the missing person that the missing person was safe. That is similar to the phone call that Ashley's mother received, albeit from a different source.

There has also been an unconfirmed sighting of Ashley. Her step-grandmother thought she spotted the girl on west 44th Street in November 2007 with short and dyed-blonde hair. What does one make of that? It's simply food for thought.

Another news event that is often reported in conjunction with Ashley Nicole Summers is the 2020 conviction of her great-uncle, Kevin Donathan. He received a 35-year sentence for sex offenses related to minors in 2020. The FBI searched his home but say he isn't a suspect -- which takes us back to the runaway hypothesis or the abducted-by-Castro guess.

What sits heavily with me, in this case, is the description of events leading up to the disappearance that had to do with her packing all of her clothes. When working on this case, I'm proceeding as though she's a runaway that was alive as of 2007. However, I assign a 60% probability for that in this difficult case with the uncle and Castro taking a heavy portion of the balance of the chances.

If she is alive and if she went missing voluntarily, then marriage is a possibility. "Ashley [Any Last Name] nee Summers" would be an interesting hit in a database.

Derrick Vincent Kucera Missing Since 1986 -- Hillsboro, Alabama

Missing Person: Derrick Vincent Kucera

Last seen or contact date: October 29th, 1986 (Wednesday) according to NamUs -- may have been November 4th, 1986

Where last seen: Hillsboro, Alabama in the passenger seat of a car on Ivy Hollow Road, which might be route 374 on modern maps.

NamUs # and Link: #MP7351

According to NamUs and Charley Project, Derrick Kucera was last seen on October 29th, 1986 in a vehicle on Ivy Hollow Road that was being driven by a male driver. He has not been seen since. According to a newspaper article I found, the date of disappearance might actually have been November 4th, 1986, however, I think this is poor journalism. The balance of everything I read on this case would support the October 29th, 1986 last-seen date.

The photo of Derrick, included at the start of this article, is one that was taken from a high-school yearbook. The year of that yearbook is 1978, meaning that Derrick would have been about 15 years old at the time of the photo and perhaps in Grade 10.

The above photo looks like that of an adult, however, from the source I could not find an age. It was posted on Ancestry.ca by one Lisa Lentz. She seemed to have an interest in helping with this case so I snipped the photo for publication here in allegiance with that. I could not find information regarding the date of the photo but we can agree this would be a better photo than the juvenile one that is often used in this case.

Ethnicity/Race: White

Sex: Male

Age at time of disappearance: 23 years old

Ivy Hollow Road, where he was last seen, is difficult to pinpoint using modern maps. It seems to be a street name that those "in the know" refer to. From what I found, it is near Bates Mountain in the county of Lawrence and might be route 374 (Google Maps 34.593745058286245, -87.20254119383081). One user on Ancestry.com said this: "CR374 is Ivy Hollow Road, & I don't think CR465 off of it ever had another name - it was a road to the George Collins homeplaces from Ivy Hollow Rd. Ivy Hollow Rd now ends at private land, but it once continued over the mountain" (Lesley Hodges Whitley on March 1st, 2013).

Derrick looks like the difficult-to-abduct type. At nearly 6'0" and 220 pounds, he's not the kind of person that you just grab, especially at the age of 23. Furthermore, the description of his last-seen moments doesn't ever mention any kind of urgency in the situation. It seems like Derrick is in the car voluntarily. Perhaps he was traveling with someone he trusted.

The mother, deceased as of 2015, hired a private investigator but the case seems to be cold.

Hair: Brown/dark blonde

Eye color: Green

Height and weight at the time of disappearance: 5'10" to 6'0" and 210 to 220 pounds

Other: a pierced ear, not sure if left or right; scar near the left eye; scar on the abdomen; clean shaven at time of disappearance but known to wear a beard.

Clothing: Black t-shirt, blue jeans; high-top tennis shoes (one black/one red); necklace with silver cross

The above newspaper article is a website snip, not an embed. I'm not sure of the original source but think that the picture has some value. I found it at Ancestry.ca.

Mary Anne Wesolowski Missing Since 1971

Author: Shane Lambert

Original Time of Writing:

All articles are subject to editing after the original posting.

The case of Mary Wesolowski is the kind of case that takes you in two different directions. From one perspective, you have to wonder if she was abducted. She was last known to be walking to Havilland Cove on the Hudson River. A known abductor, Kenneth Arnold Yarter Jr., didn't work that far away from where Mary lived. With that in mind, it's hard not to think about an abduction.

Wesolowski might also have run away. She left a note for her mother saying "I'm leaving. I might miss you." That's present tense in the first sentence and future tense in the second, the latter indicating a look to an uncertain future. It's an interesting note in that the second sentence communicates mixed emotions for her mother. That certainly hints at problems at home for this child, something that has been communicated at various sources about this case, like at Charley Project.

That site offers a lengthy description of Mary's disappearance. One excerpt states "Some agencies give Mary's name 'Mary Ann' or 'Maryanne.' Interestingly enough I found a woman in northern New York who died in the late 1970's with a name match, regardless of the spacing between Mary and Ann or not. It may be worth a look despite a one-year difference in age.

Missing Person: Mary Wesolowski, aka Mary Anne or Maryann

Last seen or contact date: August 18th, 1971

Where last seen: Glen Falls, New York

Let's assume that Mary ran away. For me, that's a difficult assumption because I have trouble picturing a 13-year old surviving as a runaway. However, people have survived worse so it can't be thrown to the wind. If we assume that she ran away, I think it's safe to assume that she made it a little way out of Glen Falls, New York. Chances are if she stayed put she would have been found. How far could she make it with whatever means she had? Probably not too far. Maybe getting out of New York would have been hard.

Take a look at the following two articles. They both describe the same person and event despite different name spellings and different ages:

Name matches to missing person but Mary Ann Wesolowski but the age is one year off.

Name matches to missing person but Mary Ann Wesolowski but the age is one year off. Tue, Nov 21, 1978 – Page 14 · Poughkeepsie Journal (Poughkeepsie, New York) · Newspapers.com

Tue, Nov 21, 1978 – 3 · The Post-Star (Glens Falls, New York) · Newspapers.com

The problem with the articles is that one describes a "Mary Ann Wesolowski, 21" and the other describes a "Maryann Wesoloswki, 22." Note the difference in spelling of both the first and last names but Wesolowski spelled correctly for Billy. Also, note the different ages. Furthermore, note all the other similarities because they practically eliminate the chance of these two people, "Mary Ann Wesolowski, 21" and "Maryann Wesoloswki, 22" actually being different people. Clearly, the two news articles cover the same event.

Lastly, and importantly, note that our Mary Wesolowski, NamUs #MP2876, was neither 21 nor 22 on November 21st, 1978. She would only have been 20. But it's funny how she was referred to as Maryann and Mary Ann and that's how different agencies described her as well. That the age doesn't match is important -- in fact, in some cases that's a rule out. In this case, I can't ignore the journalism that didn't care to get her age right or name spelled right. Maybe they were working with shoddy sources themselves.

The Mary described in the news articles was likely white. One photo had a picture of the dying Billy, Mary's child, and he was white. It's not a slam dunk to have the same color of skin as one of your parents but the tendencies are real. Our Mary, the missing person, was also white.

Tue, Nov 21, 1978 – 17 · The Herald-Palladium (Saint Joseph, Michigan) · Newspapers.com

For me, this all means that this "Maryann Wesoloswki, 22" or "Mary Ann Wesolowski, 21" should be looked at as a rule-out for Mary Wesolowski, #MP2876. A good idea would be if websleuths or amateurs took to the databases they have memberships for and looked for the Mary that died in this house fire. We're interested in someone with a different birthdate, a different photo, or something that rules her out because the crummy journalism doesn't do that for me.

On the matter, I did look at ancestry.com for the deceased two-year-old Jennifer Wesolowski. I found someone by that name in the Buffalo area that was born in 1976, someone that had an address in N. Tonawanda, New York, USA. I wondered if that was the Jennifer mentioned in the article because the age would match. I'm thinking that this address might be a clue in this case.

If Mary from the housefire is our missing person, then be aware that she did die from the injuries sustained from the fire. This would be about closure and not a reunion.

Missing Person: Ann Bernadette Fulton, also went by "Bea" which may be derived from her middle name

Ann Bernadette Fulton was last seen in Bridgewater, New Jersey on April 23rd, 1971 but she was not reported missing until June 10th of that year (her husband reported her missing).

I was not able to find information on her case using newspaper databases. But I have some tips for those working on this case to build off of.

If you are looking in newspaper databases, I advise to use "Bea Fulton" as the search term, Bea being Ann's nickname. You could also try derivatives of Ann, like "Anne," "Anna," or even "Annette." I did find one hit using "Bea Fulton" but the newspaper article did not contain much information. In fact, it was from before the time of her disappearance.

I can't even be absolutely certain that this "Bea Fulton" is the same person and that does create the possibility of a fruitless tangent. However, that the "Bea Fulton" hit was in Bridgewater is something I found interesting.

Furthermore, my research aligned with someone else's independent research. I post a pertinent newspaper clipping below, which includes the street name that she resided on, that being "Frohlin Drive." This street name became a focal point of my research. The entire article was about school funding.

Might be about Ann Fulton, missing person from 1971
Might be about Ann Fulton, missing person from 1971 Tue, Feb 24, 1970 – Page 9 · The Courier-News (Bridgewater, New Jersey) · Newspapers.com

One strange detail in the common description of this case is that she was reported missing six weeks after her last-seen date. That's a large gap unless she had a history of running off. Take it or leave it but I don't really think she was the run-off type.

A "Kip Fulton," born in 1953 (I think), might be the name of an individual that she lived with but I'm not really sure. I found that this person was in legal trouble in the 1970s for minor offenses having to do with marijuana but that a same-named individual also was indicted for break-ins. I think this person was her son.

The reason I connect this individual to Bea Fulton is that both have an address associated with "Frohlin Drive" by two newspaper articles. Furthermore, Bea Fulton's maiden name appeared to be "Kania." I see this name in the family tree of Kip Fulton, who died in 1991. His grandparents, according to his family tree at Ancestry.com, were John and Margaret Kania. My thinking is that these were also Bea Fulton's parents. Again, these 'findings' might actually be fruitless tangents but could still be looked at to try and find details on this case.

When I consulted websleuths, I found that a user named "alb1on" felt "fairly sure" that her maiden name was Ann Bernadette Kania based on the user's research at ancestry.com (link good as December 24th, 2020). This research was in line with what I found in newspaper articles. If true, Bea's husband would be named Thomas K Fulton and they would have four children as of Jan 29, 1965 (see clippings below). I did find many newspaper clippings where a Thomas K Fulton was mentioned in association with Frohlin Drive which started to brings things together. Their street address is in one of the clippings below.

I think websleuths or amateurs working on this case simply need to expand the details of the disappearance. Individuals that knew Bea are one source for doing this.

Lastly, I found that the Frohlin Drive area was where there were a fair amount of reports of both erosion and flooding in the late 1960s and early 1970s but no evidence of a flood at the time of her disappearance.

Eileen Francis Hynson Missing Since June 1st, 1976

Eileen Francis Hynson left the residence she shared with her father (Thomas) and brother (Thomas) to go to a resort at Lake Berryessa on June 1st, 1976. She may have left the resort to go to Benicia, California to attend a bridal party dress fitting. However, details are scant in this case except that she has never been seen again. Her suitcase was reportedly left at her residence.

A comment on a Facebook post about this missing person's case said:

"Please bring my. dearest cuzin home.......She left my home to go home and get ready to go get fit for her gown. She was to be my Maid of honor.......40 yrs go by and....believe me..I still look for her She will always be with me in her heart...We were very close cuzins.....I thought we were BFF....Some days I feel superclose....as if she is right here by my side........Please give our family hope and that we WiLL find her and bring her home........We love you Eileen........please call me......" (user's name withheld).

Missing Person: Eileen Francis Hynson

This is a case where the research was difficult. Her case is mentioned on Internet websites but it seems everyone says the same thing. When I searched for her in newspaper databases, I found the obituaries for her parents and that's all.

I did find someone who posted something on Facebook about the case, which generated a comment from a user who claimed to be her cousin. I reached out to this person to try and get some information but what that leads to is pending at this point.

Lake Berryessa, the location of the resort that Eileen Francis Hynson may have been heading to, was the scene of a Zodiac Killer attack in 1969. Bryan Calvin Hartnell survived the attack while 22-year-old Cecelia Ann Shephard died. This attack happened about seven years before Eileen's disappearance. The Zodiac Killer remains unidentified but I think the chance that he is related to this MP could be mentioned as food for thought.

Jessica Heeringa Missing From Michigan Since 2013 -- Gas Station Employee Vanishes

Author: Shane Lambert

Original Time of Writing: December 22nd, 2020

All articles are subject to editing after the original posting.

Missing Person: Jessica Heeringa

Last seen or contact date: April 26th, 2013 (Friday) late in the evening, likely between 1050pm (time of her last sale as a clerk) and 1115pm. She may have been behind the building as a small drop of her blood was found there.

Where last seen: in Norton Shores, Michigan. She was working at an Exxon Mobil gas station as a clerk at the location that was on East Sternberg Road. The gas station was between Grand Haven Road and Highway 31. Google Maps: 43.15449809998207, -86.21656688503997.

Jessica Heeringa has been missing from Norton Shores in Michigan since April 26th, 2013. She was working at an Exxon Mobil station as a clerk. A customer, no later than 1120pm, found the gas station open but no one was around. She disappeared late in her shift, leaving her personal belongings in the store -- including $400 in her purse. The station did not have surveillance. One early article that was published a few days after her disappearance is snipped below.

Jessica Heeringa
Jessica Heeringa Mon, Apr 29, 2013 – 2 · Livingston County Daily Press and Argus (Howell, Michigan) · Newspapers.com

This case was treated as an abduction since an early part of the investigation. In the early coverage, they communicated interest in questioning a white male with a silver Chrysler minivan (sometimes called a van). The cash register was untouched so this didn't look like a robbery gone wrong.

The witness in the case was an off-duty employee, a woman who drove by the Exxon store. She noticed a van behind the store and circled back. I think she may have been the one that gave the description that lead to a composition sketch of the suspect and the report of the van.

Jessica Heeringa

The van was thought to have been captured in other footage from businesses in the area. This suspicious van may have passed Coin Zone on Grand Haven Road at about 11:04pm. They also had a video from a tavern, one that also allegedly showed the vehicle in question.

Jessica Heeringa
Jessica Heeringa Tue, Apr 30, 2013 – 2 · Livingston County Daily Press and Argus (Howell, Michigan) · Newspapers.com

The person of interest in the case was Jeffrey Willis, now convicted. At the time of writing, he was in prison for a separate crime that involved killing a female jogger in western Michigan. Willis is a reasonable match to the composite sketch that was generated of the driver of the minivan.

Jessica Heeringa

Jessica Heeringa Sat, Dec 28, 2019 – A5 · Detroit Free Press (Detroit, Michigan) · Newspapers.com

There is some closure in this case in the sense that her abductor has been brought to justice. However, Jessica remains a missing person. On that matter, her direction of travel could be speculated on.

Coin Zone, the name of the company that had the footage of the vehicle in question, is permanently closed at the time of writing. However, I found an address of 4300 Grand Haven Road in North Shores for the expired business. There's a possibility that Jessica was in this vehicle, meaning her direction of travel was northern from her last known location.

Jessica's distinctive physical characteristics, listed below, are not likely to aid in this investigation. If we assume that she is long dead then her tattoos and lazy eye would not be ascertainable should a Jane Doe be found that might be her (decomposition). Her short height of 5'1" is what should be remembered in this case, as well as the distinctive clothing that was wearing.

There is some reason to believe that she was buried near Sheridan Road and Laketon Road "near abandoned railroad tracks." However, leads on this tip have not been fruitful.

If she is buried in the area, then future amateurs working on this case could note any human remains at future construction sites in the area. An area that may have been secluded in 2013 might be developed at a future date. Sometimes construction workers unearth human remains as the lay groundwork for foundations and that's where the strongest likelihood of finding her maybe.
