Commentary, By Shane Lambert

I had a look at this Jane Doe for a little while tonight. My focus was on the initials HHW and a missing persons report anywhere that matched those initials in respect to the dates.

One thing that stood out to me is that NamUs said that the Jane Doe's name might be Maria. However, that would not match HHW, the initials on the ring. However, there is a chance that the initials belonged to her husband. As soon as you start dealing with situations like that, the volume or search terms to use in various databases start getting immense.

Complicating the matter, I also considered the chance that the initials were read upside down. In that case, they would become MHH. Interesting enough, the M would match Maria in that case but then this is a speculative tangent.

I used quite a lot of search terms on the Jane Doe, using the clues in her file. None of them turned up a thing. Furthermore, I did not find a report of a car accident on Gopher Canyon Road on the date in question. This means that this car accident was not reported on or the report has been not been digitized yet. Feel free to look for the news regarding this accident or for missing people matching the recommended initials. Digital records do get updated constantly.

NamUs #UP87267 - Jane Doe's Skull Found in Washington DC in December 2001

By: Shane Lambert

NamUs description: "Construction workers renovating an apartment found a skull in a crawl space of a ground floor apartment located at 1926 I street, NE apt 1."

Sex: Female

Race: Caucasian/White

Age: Thought to be an adult

Height and weight: no estimates, skull only

Date body found: The body has not been found or, if found, I don't think it has been associated with the skull that was found on December 17th, 2001 (Monday)

Where was the skull found: Washington, DC.

With so few details available in this case, this is one that amateur investigators might feel as though they should back away from. How can you hope to name a Jane Doe based only on a skull and sparse demographics?

However, I think this is a case that Websleuths or amateurs might be able to contribute to. Remember, you aren't really trying to solve a case here. As an amateur, you are trying to find a lead that police or professional investigators might take seriously with the hopes that the lead does help solve the case. On that matter, this is what I think amateurs should do: focus on the street address.

A skull can be in a crawlspace for decades. Did someone who lived there end up going missing? Did someone who lived there have a rap sheet for violent crimes?

The address appeared to be a place with up to four apartments. I found the street address in Ancestry files subdivided into Apt. 1, Apt. 2, Apt. 3, and Apt. 4. It's possible that more apartments may have evaded my searching but it appeared to have at least four apartments. The earliest use of the street address I found in Ancestry was for 1983. The earliest use of the apartment's address where the skull was found, Apt. 1, was also for 1983.

Honestly, I expected to find earlier uses of the address. Also, newspaper reports of the skull's discovery evaded my searching.

I did look at the street address using Google Maps. The building that is there in 2021 was there in at least 2007 according to the street views from that site. The building is one of those brick buildings that stands the test of time.

I think the building was constructed in 1946. A modern online advertisement I found said that the apartments were built that year. I'm thinking that missing women from that year onward are all in play, unfortunately. A missing person with some kind of connection to the address or a connection to a former resident would be interesting, I think.

As far as NamUs goes, The missing person in NamUs that might be worth looking at is Patsy Arlene Gaisor. However, the connection to the skull is very tenuous. She matches the skull in terms of NamUs's listed race and sex. Furthermore, she went missing in 1980, over two decades before the skull was found.

Her body was thought to have been dumped into the nearby Anacostia River at Anacostia Park. This park is not that long of a drive away from the address, however, it's a tenuous lead, meaning there is no significant connection. Two men were convicted of her murder in 1982. I'm not sure if there is any follow-up news on the conviction. Someone dumping a body in a river might remove the skull if they understand that dentals can be used for identification. However, that's not what was stated in the reporting for Gaisor so I'm not thinking the skull is hers. Perhaps other missing women in the area will be added to the database in time.

I don't mind people building off my notes, which I have decided not to publish online for this case. However, feel free to contact me if you are looking at this case.

Phyllis Marie Corbin -- Missing Since November 1963

Paraphrased details from government source**: Phyllis was placed at the House of Good Shepherd. This was located at 3800 Gravois Ave., St. Louis, Missouri. While she was there at the beginning of November of 1963, she met another young lady and they ran away together. She was given a ride to the bus station where reportedly they were heading to New Orleans. The home supposedly reported her missing but Phyllis' family hasn't been able to confirm that. It was originally believed the other girl may have returned three weeks later but that too is not proven.

The photo shows the missing person at the age of 14.

Missing Person: Phyllis Marie Corbin
Last-contact date: November 1963
The area where the MP was last seen: St. Louis, Missouri. There was a Greyhound Bus Station at 709 North Broadway in 1963 but perhaps there was more than one.
Link to government source: NamUs MP#50556

VITAL DETAILS

Ethnicity: Caucasian
Sex: Female
Age at time of disappearance: 16 years old
Birthdate: Phyllis Marie Corbin was born between November 2nd, 1946, and November 1st, 1947 based on her reported age at the last date of reported contact. I found a Phyllis Marie Corbin that was born in Missouri on September 6th, 1947 at Ancestry.
Hair: Reddish-brown, short and wavy
Eyes: blue
Scar: none reported
Height/weight: 65 to 68 inches and 100 to 155 pounds
BMI*: Phyllis Marie Corbin was in the normal range for BMI if you use the upper values.
Tattoos: Phyllis Marie Corbin did not have any tattoos associated with her profiles.

Phyllis Marie Corbin was last heard from in November of 1963 when she was 16 years of age. This individual has now been missing for about 58 years as of the original publication date of this blog post.

There is little to go on with the case, except for the NamUs description. I did not find any media coverage with this individual. Furthermore, this individual was not in the files of Ancestry very much. However, I think I found her birthdate of September 6th, 1947.  Ancestry updates their files regularly, so one thing you could do is look in that database for this individual and see if she shows up anywhere after his last-seen date of November 1963.

When I looked at Google Maps for the address of the House of Good Shepherd, I thought that the building currently standing might have been the same one in 1963. However, Google Maps only went back to 2007 for the area.

Some research I did on the House of Good Shepherd suggested to me that these were kind-of halfway houses for at-risk youth. It seemed that this was a place that someone would want to "escape" from. The following article pertains to the House of Good Shepherd from 1967. It's clear from the article that this isn't a place that anyone would want to be. It suggests that Phyllis was an at-risk youth in a problematic environment. Perhaps she sought to escape the House of Good Shepherd at all costs.

William David Shannon -- Missing Since September 1995 in Washington state

Paraphrased details from government source**

Left home in Salem, Oregon for a camping/hiking trip and never returned. Did not take medications for mental and medical problems. Vehicle found at the National Forest trailhead to Lake Angeline. An extensive search operation was unproductive. The vehicle was left at the trailhead and impounded by the US Forest Service.

Update: The original time of writing was April 3rd, 2021. The MP is still missing as of March 25th, 2025.

Not the actual vehicle. AI was prompted to generate a picture of the vehicle's likeness near a hiking trail. Shows a 1991 Pontiac 2x2 that's blue with Oregon plates.

Missing Person: William David Shannon
Last-contact date: September 4th, 1995 (this was Labor Day that year, a Monday)
The area where the MP was last seen: Skykomish, Washington
Link to government source: NamUs MP

VITAL DETAILS

Ethnicity: Caucasian
Sex: Male
Age at time of disappearance: 47 years old
Birthdate: William David Shannon was born between September 5th, 1947, and September 4th, 1948, based on his reported age at the last date of reported contact.

Hair: Brown
Eyes: Blue
Scar: None known

Height/weight: 6'4" and 180 pounds
BMI*: William David Shannon was in the normal range for BMI.

No photo found: If a photo can't be found, rely on BMI, height, weight, ethnicity, and other physical features to describe or picture the person.
Tattoos: William David Shannon did not have any tattoos associated with his profiles.

William David Shannon was last heard from on September 4th, 1995, when he was 47 years of age. That was a Monday, and as the first Monday in September, it was also Labor Day in 1995. William David Shannon has now been missing for about 26 years as of the original publication date of this blog post.

When it came to expanding details, this was a difficult case. I did not find a newspaper article that covered the missing person's disappearance.

Sometimes, with a first name like William, selecting the proper keywords to search can be difficult. There's Will, Willy, Willie, Bill, Billy, Billie and then all the combinations that come with whether or not to use the middle name (ie. which could be "Dave" or "David"), just the middle initial, or to use first and last name alone. There are dozens of way this person might be named in media, if not using a strict first and last name combination.

William David Shannon: Limited Media Coverage

In the end, I felt like there were no newspaper articles on this disappearance in the Newspaper.com database. That may change in the future, so take a moment to double-check if you are reading this well after the publication date.

I did note that the individual did not have a photo included with his profile. When I encounter that situation, I usually attribute it to a lack of public interest in the case. Perhaps the hard-to-find newspaper coverage or web news source isn't too surprising.

When a missing person doesn't have a photo, researchers can try to find one at Ancestry.com or at Newspapers.com. I am convinced that William David Shannon has profile information at Ancestry, as his NamUs profile says he was from Salem, Oregon.

I found someone who was in the right birthdate range who had an exact name match at that website for Salem, Oregon. There might have been a Yearbook photo of him at the site, but I couldn't authenticate it as the missing person for sure. Furthermore, a photo of him in his 20s isn't great to use when he disappeared at the age of 47.

This William David Shannon might be the same one as the missing person: his date of death is listed as September 23rd, 1995, which would be 19 days after the disappearance. It just might be that September 23rd was when someone filed a missing person report. Conversely, they could be different people, but there is a lot of overlap between the NamUs William David Shannon and the one at Ancestry.

Hiking Without Medication - Seems Odd

What stands out with this case is that this individual went hiking and/or camping without medications that he presumptively needed. That certainly doesn't bode well for his health and well-being.

The Lake Angeline area that is mentioned in the NamUs description appears to be a puny lake near Darrington, Washington. These were the coordinates I noted off of Google Maps for what looks like little more than a pond: 48.24182048327208, -121.54171666844462.

I wondered if his vehicle might have been parked on a road labelled as NF-2420, but I wasn't sure what I was looking at.

I have looked at a lot of cases involving missing hikers in the past. When the vehicle is found near the trailhead, then they should be presumed to be lost on the trail. Hikers who are rescued under these circumstances are usually rescued only if found within a week. That would suggest that this missing person is dead, something supported by his 30-year absence as of 2025.

Clothing and Possessions Associated with William David Shannon
Item Description
Backpack Blue Jansport backpack
T-shirt Plain T-shirt (color not specified)
Pants Long pants (color and material not specified)

Richard W. Powell -- Missing Since March 1984 From Texas

Details from NamUs**

"Powell was last seen in Texas on March 22, 1984. His vehicle was found abandoned in an Irving, Dallas County, Texas parking lot April 23, 1984. Foul play is considered in his disappearance."

Missing Person: Richard W. Powell
May use the following alias(es): Richard F. Powell
Last-contact date: March 22nd, 1984
The area where the MP was last seen: Fort Worth, Texas
Link to government source: NamUs MP

VITAL DETAILS

Ethnicity: Caucasian
Sex: Male
Age at time of disappearance: 18 years old
Birthdate: February 1st, 1966
Hair: Blond/strawberry
Eyes: Blue
Scar: None indicated
Height/weight: 5'7" to 5'10" and 150 to 160 pounds
BMI*: Richard W. Powell was in the normal range for BMI.
Tattoos: Richard W. Powell did not have any tattoos associated with his profiles.

Richard W. Powell was last heard from on March 22nd, 1984 when he was 18 years of age. This individual has now been missing for about 37 years as of the original publication date of this blog post.

I didn't find any media coverage in newspaper databases. This person was in Ancestry, however, I didn't see any research angle that could shed light on anything unless a family member could be found that was willing to open up the details of this case to an online audience. There appeared to be a couple of photos of him in the 1982 yearbook for Sam Houston High School but I think they were younger photos than the one that circulates with his various profiles.

The missing person did not have any articles or items associated with his missing person's reports, at least of the sources that I consulted. It would be interesting to know where exactly the car was found and why the police thought that foul play was plausible.

Richard W. Powell had the following distinctive characteristic:
  • a mole on his right cheek
  • the pinkie fingers on both hands are permanently curved inward
I wondered if the curving pinky fingers were born deformations that might show up in his skeletal remains. It might do well for Websleuths or amateur investigators to look at John Doe databases for this skeletal detail on an unidentified person.

Alisa Francine Watson -- Missing Since 1972 from Tacoma, Washington

VITAL DETAILS

Ethnicity: Black
Sex: Female
Age at time of disappearance: 14 years old
Birthdate: Alisa Francine Watson was born around 1958.
Hair: Brown
Eyes: Brown
Scar: No scars known
Height/weight: 5'2" and 115 pounds
BMI*: Alisa Francine Watson was in the normal range for BMI.
No photo found: If a photo can't be found, rely on BMI, height, weight, ethnicity, and other physical features to describe or picture the person.
Tattoos: Alisa Francine Watson had no tattoos associated with her profile. If you know that the missing person did have tattoos, please post a remark at the end of this blog post. Tattoos are important for identifying someone because Jane Does (unidentified dead people) often have tattoos mentioned in their profiles. I can be a basis for comparing DNA between a missing person and an unidentified person.

By: Shane Lambert
Original time of writing: March 19th, 2021

Alisa Francine Watson has not been seen since 1972 when she was 14 years old. NamUs notes a missing date of January 1st for that year, however, often this specific date is used to refer to any time of the year that it is conjoined with. That means she might have disappeared at any time in 1972. This individual has now been missing for about 52-53 years as of February 2025.

We, people who work on missing person cases, have no photo to work with on this case. This is an individual who doesn't have one attached to any profile. When a missing person doesn't have a photo, researchers can try to find a photo at Ancestry.com or at Newspapers.com. However, if the missing person was someone that you knew and you have a photo of her, then please reply to this post.

What stands out in this case is the youth of the individual. How did she have her own apartment in Seattle? Or was she residing with someone there?

If she is a runaway, then what were her means to transport herself? Washington in the 1970s was a hub for hitchhiker disappearances, although few details are known online about this case. In fact, this is a case that is in dire need of someone contributing more information than what's available online. I was not able to find this person in Ancestry or Newspapers.com.

Lorelee Sue Lhotka -- Missing Since 1975 in Washington state

Details from NamUs**
Reported to have left home for a doctor's appointment. Supposed to take the bus, but would also hitchhike. Wallet found in Wenatchee National Forest in 1978 at the Blewett Pass.

Missing Person: Lorelee Sue Lhotka
Last-contact date: 1975, possibly in early February
The area where the MP was last seen: Seattle, Washington
Link to government source: NamUs MP#6849

VITAL DETAILS

Ethnicity: Uncertain, but she is listed among missing Indigenous people in Washington state
Sex: Female
Age at time of disappearance: 19 years old
Birthdate: Might have been June 27th, 1957
Hair: Brown
Eyes: Brown
Scar: No scars known
Height/weight: 5'3" and 120 pounds
BMI*: Lorelee Sue Lhotka was in the normal range for BMI.
Tattoos: Lorelee Sue Lhotka had no tattoos associated with her profiles. If you know that the missing person did have tattoos, please post a remark at the end of this blog post.

Lorelee Sue Lhotka was last heard from on January 1st, 1975 when she was 19 years of age according to her NamUs profile. However, it should be noted that dates of January 1st in NamUs often refer to an unspecified time of the year.

On this matter, I found one source that said she was last heard from on February 1st of that year. This individual has now been missing for over 50 years.

I did not find any media coverage with her case at Newspapers.com. I did find a divorce record for a "Lorelee S. Lhotka" dated to December 22nd, 1977.

It was in Washington but I can't be sure it's regarding the missing person, however, I think it was. It was filed by the husband and might be a divorce in absentia. The place of the divorce was Mason, Washington. Her address might have been near Rainer Avenue S. and 57th Avenue S. in Seattle.

One task with this case is to find out what her alias of Spamola refers to. It seems that her maiden name might have been Davis. Furthermore, the pinpoint location of where her wallet was found in 1978 would be very interesting. I found a source that said it was found in the Blewett Pass (Google Maps).

Lastly, this missing person should be looked at concerning all Jane Does that come out of the Wenatchee area that are estimated to have died around 1975.

What stands out with this case was that her wallet was found at Blewett Pass and she was known to hitchhike.

Candi Gramajo -- Missing Since December 2001 From Oklahoma

Details from NamUs**

"GRAMAJO has not been seen since 2am on 12/26/2001 where she went missing from her home on the NW side of OKC. She is believed to be headed to Florida or Virginia."

Missing Person: Candi Gramajo
Last-contact date: December 26th, 2001 at about 2AM
The area where the MP was last seen: Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
Link to government source: NamUs #78741

VITAL DETAILS

Ethnicity: Hispanic
Sex: Female
Age at time of disappearance: 14 years old
  • This person was born between December 27th, 1986, and December 26th, 1987
  • When the birthdate isn't known, I calculate a range using the age at the date of the missing person's disappearance.
Hair: Black, shoulder-lengthed
Eyes: Brown
Scar: None listed at NamUs
Height/weight: 5-foot-0 and 95 pounds (maybe taller now given her age)
BMI*: Candi Gramajo was in the normal range for BMI (no way to know what her BMI would be in the years that followed)
  • BMI is body mass index. It relates to an individual's height and weight. I include it believing it can help picture a missing person or describe one.
No photo: When a photo isn't found for a missing person, you can try to get an idea of what someone looked like by focusing on BMI, height, weight, ethnicity, and other physical features.

Candi Gramajo has not been seen since December 26th, 2001, when she was 14 years old. Technically, that was Boxing Day, however, it was late Christmas night. This individual has now been missing for 20 years as of the original publication date of this blog post.

If you are working on this case, then one of the early goals should be to get a photo up of this missing person. Ancestry might be a good place to look for one online. If you find one, please remark at the end of this blog post.

What stands out with this case, is that her NamUs profile includes a vehicle description. That is a little odd given that the age of the missing person is 14 years old. I don't picture her having a driver's license. Did she leave alone or with someone that could drive?

The description also says that she was headed to Florida or Virginia. That, in itself, makes it sound like a voluntary disappearance but it would still have been the disappearance of a minor.

The way the profile reads, it's as though she was driving a 1986 Red Honda 2-door car to Florida or Virginia from Oklahoma. That's a little bit difficult to accept as accurate given the age of the missing person so there is probably more to this missing person case than meets the eye. I wouldn't be surprised if the age is wrong or if the details are not correct or not comprehensive.

If she was 14 years old and if she was a runaway, then it creates a stronger possibility that she was alive in the aftermath of her last-known sighting. However, her name did not appear in my searches for Newspaper.com archives or Ancestry. That made it hard to elaborate on the details of her case. Furthermore, an Internet search for "Candi Gramajo" + "missing" did not produce anything. These search results should be duplicated after some time so you, the reader, could take a moment to do that.

Databases are updated from time to time. If looking at Ancestry, then a marriage certificate would be an interesting find for someone with the same name and a birthdate that's likely to be in 1987 but might be in late 1986 given her age when she disappeared. An association to Oklahoma, Florida, or Virginia would also be interesting in a potential marriage certificate. Be aware that if she did end up getting married then her last name may have changed.

If you are looking at the Jane Doe databases, then Candi Gramajo may have had the following articles when she disappeared: tan pants, a red shirt, and a black jacket. Jane Doe profiles often include articles of clothing that the decedent was found in close proximity to.

If you know where this person might be or have any information on this case, then please contact the authorities. In Canada, look for Canada's Missing website with the Federal government. In the USA, you can look for the NamUs profile. Conversely, you can post a remark to this article.

Crystal Lynn Russ, a missing person, was last heard from on April 13th, 2000 when she was 25 years old. This individual has now been missing for 21 years as of the original publication date of this blog post.

This case was not one where details were readily available. I searched for her name with and without the middle name at newspapers.com and nothing came up. Nor were there any hits on the web for her name and nor did an image search for her picture bring anything up. It seems like this is an uncovered case in journalism.

I was able to find a very helpful online profile for this individual at Ancestry.com. That's where I got her birthdate. It's also indicated at this profile that she had been married, perhaps multiple times. On her profile, her date of disappearance is listed as her date of death. That could be presumptive on the part of the individual that made Crystal's profile.

What stands out to me with this case is the NamUs description. My assumption was that she went missing during a shift as a taxi driver, however, I did find a post that suggested that Crystal was both a taxi driver and a trainee for an Exxon Station manager.

Someone named Margo Anne Cason Smith, likely a relative of Crystal's, took an interest in this case. I will repost her statements on Crystal's disappearance in case the statements should get deleted at the original-post location. The post was titled "Missing" and it was written on June 1st, 2012:
Crystal was very ill for about a week before she was taken. She had 2 ear infections. She started feeling better and asked me Wednesday if she could go back to work.  I told her to wait one more day and see how she was feeling.  She came to me on Thursday morning and told me that her other ear had popped and she was feeling much better and that she was going to go to work for awhile before she went to her training job.  She was training to be a manager of an Exxon Station.  She was driving one of my taxi's.  She went to the airport and got one trip off. Not sure where she went. She went to her other job, she worked from 10pm to 6am.  She told her manager about 2am that her ear was starting to hurt again and asked if she could leave a little early. Manager told her sure, it's slow.  She left at 2:15 am. A friend tried to call out for her as he drove into the station, but wether she heard or not, we will never know.  That was the last anyone saw of her, that knew her.  Her last phone call was a friend at 8 pm. We found the car a week later after I put a reward out on it, with no questions asked, to every cab company in Houston.  Her personal items were still in the cab,(birthday cards, favorite perfume, fingernail polish, stuffed animals) the ID holder had been cut in half (why?) all you had to do is slide her ID out of the holder.  All of her "for sale" beanie babies were gone and other things that could be a quick small sale.  What happened?  She is still missing. Her husband, Kevin, is still missing her.  We are all missing her. Her children still ask questions. I have no answers.  If she ever reads this,Crystal please come home, we still Love You.

 Margo Anne (Gersdorf) Cason Smith
Missing from a gas station late at night could invoke shades of the Jessica Heeringa missing person case from 2013. That's not to say that these cases are related but the similarities are still interesting to compare and contrast.

One big difference is that Jessica went missing after her scheduled shift, whereas Crystal went home early. Jessica was being stalked and her stalker knew when her shift ended. If Crystal was being stalked then ending her shift early would have been a curveball for her stalker. Furthermore, Jessica was abducted at the scene of the gas station whereas Crystal, according to the description above, left the gas station in a vehicle she was operating.

I think a major detail, in this case, is that Crystal Lynn Russ was driving a taxi cab. There is an indication that she picked up a fare earlier in the night before her shift. I wonder if she received a fare request during her shift at the gas station and decided to take that taxi work instead of completing her gas-station shift. Conversely, maybe she received a fare request on her way home and decided to take it.

The sliced ID holder is something to think about. For me, it hints that someone other than Crystal was in the car. What I am picturing here is that this person wanted to rid the car of Crystal's ID so as to prolong any investigation. The author of the post I quoted asks why he (presumingly a "he") simply wouldn't slide the ID out. My answer is that maybe he didn't know that was an option due to a lack of familiarity with the device. If you have ever struggled with something incredibly simple just because it was your first time using it, you will understand this. He cut the ID holder to get rid of the ID because he didn't realize that the ID could be removed in a far simpler manner.

Someone left these comments on this blog post. I repost them in case they are later deleted. I have not been able to authenticate the identity of the commenter so they can only be taken as food for thought.

"My daughter had several tattoo's. On the back of her neck in about 1 inch English Script she had SMITH. She had a small heart on I believe the outside of her left leg down towards the ankle. She had a couple others, but I can't remember.

The car was located at an apartment house, that has been torn down and I think there is a clinic there now. I don't know if the police found any fingerprints?? They had the car for about a month and tore it apart. They still have all her private belongings that were left in the car."

Allen Walter Jimmy -- Missing in Alaska Since 1985

Details from NamUs**:
Allen was last seen operating a boat which was found capsized on the Kuskokwim river up river from Napakiak.

Missing Person
: Allen Walter Jimmy
Last-contact date: August 23rd, 1985
The area where the MP was last seen: Napakiak, Alaska
Link to government source: NamUs #MP6628

VITAL DETAILS

Ethnicity: Alaska Native
Sex: Male
Age at time of disappearance: 21 years old
Birthdate: between August 24th, 1963 and August 23rd, 1964
  • I'm not sure of the exact birthdate for Allen Walter Jimmy but a date range can be calculated using his age at the time of the disappearance.
Hair: Black
Eyes: Brown
Scar: None listed at NamUs
Height/weight: 5-foot-4 and 130 pounds
BMI*: Allen Walter Jimmy was in the normal range for BMI.
  • Please, Google-search BMI if you aren't familiar with the phrase. I think it's an important tool to be aware of when working on missing person cases.
No photo: This missing person's profile did not have a photo included at NamUs. I will attempt to look for one but if a photo can't be found, then please rely on BMI, height, weight, ethnicity, and other physical features to describe or picture the person. When a missing person doesn't have a photo, researchers can try to find a photo at Ancestry.com or at Newspapers.com.

Tattoos: Allen Walter Jimmy did not have any tattoos associated with his profiles. If you know this to be a mistake, then please contact this site.

Allen Walter Jimmy was last heard from on August 23rd, 1985, when he was 21 years of age. This individual has now been missing for 36 years as of the original publication date of this blog post.

What stands out with this case, is that the boat that he was last seen in was found capsized. Furthermore, his clothing description would suggest that he wasn't wearing a lifejacket.

Allen Walter Jimmy may have had the following articles when he disappeared: blue jacket, "non-floatation" vest, blue jeans, and black rubber boots. The NamUs description seemed to make a point to stress that his vest wasn't a life preserver. Furthermore, I think rubber boots would inhibit swimming and thus be a strong handicap if he did fall into the river

When it comes to missing people, clothing can be very important. Clothes and items can be used to try and match a missing person to a John Doe.

I had trouble finding a news article on this disappearance in the newspaper.com database. Furthermore, I had trouble finding this individual in Ancestry profiles. Instead, I focused on the river that he was last seen in close proximity to, the Kuskokwim River. This is a river where numerous articles over the years have been published online in relation to the keyword "capsized."

In one article I read at thestar.com, a man's boat capsized in September 2018. He was on "the Kuskokwim River near the village of Napakiak" making it sound like a similar event to that of Allen Walter Jimmy's disappearance. The man involved in the 2018 disappearance was not found until June 2019.

However, it is not uncommon for individuals who fall into a river to go missing for several decades. I will note two other articles on this website that have to do with individuals falling into a river and, as of the time of publication, each remains unaccounted for despite the passage of several decades.

Thomas William Richey is believed to have fallen in a river in Oregon in 1950 and he remains missing. Duane Ludwig Winget fell in a river in 1962 in the state of Washington and he has not been accounted for yet.

What exactly happens to someone when they fall into a river and remain missing for decades is something I want to research in the future. Obviously, hypothermia and drowning are going to be the causes of deaths in most cases but one question I have is do the individual's remains stay close to the accident scene, or can they travel over great distances?

Francisco Do Nascimento Pimentel was last heard from on August 8th, 1976, when he was 18 years of age. This individual has now been missing for 45 years as of the original publication date of this blog post.

What stands out with this case, is that the NamUs description describes a situation where you would think it would be hard for him to disappear -- at least, without a further lead. It says that he boarded a train with military recruits and his recruiter, yet the last person to report seeing him was his family members. It would seem like the co-recruits, recruiter, and possibly train staff would have something to say on this matter. There definitely appears to be an incomplete story regarding the circumstances. To try and complete it, I did some research on Newspapers.com and Ancestry.com but was not able to find anything additional on this missing person.

I think this case opens up to Websleuths and amateur investigators/hobbyists if someone who knew him on the day he was last seen provides more details. Additionally, any of the co-recruits that remember that day might be able to offer something.

The way he sounds, he boarded the train in Providence bound for New Jersey but never reached it. Did he jump off the train? Did he sneak off at an earlier exit to dodge military duty? This is a difficult case where there's just not enough to conjecture from, meaning that opening up the details is the first duty. However, I think it is fair to say that any destination en route to Fort Dix from Providence is in play. It's not clear what the Amtrack route was but Warwick, New London, Hartford, New Haven, Bridgeport, Stamford, New York City, Newark, Trenton, and Philadelphia could all be points where he disembarked.

VITAL DETAILS

Ethnicity: White/Caucasian
Sex: Male
Age at time of disappearance: 20 years old
Birthdate: between March 10th, 1955 and March 9th, 1956
  • I'm not sure of the exact birthdate for Brian Thomas Vargo but a date range can be calculated using his age at the time of the disappearance.
Hair: Brown
Eyes: Hazel
Scar: Above right eye
Height/weight: 6-foot-0 and 150 pounds
BMI*: Brian Thomas Vargo was in the normal range for BMI.
  • Please, Google-search BMI if you aren't familiar with the phrase. I think it's an important tool to be aware of when working on missing person cases.
Tattoos: Brian Thomas Vargo did not have any tattoos associated with his profiles. If you know this to be a mistake, then please contact this site.

Brian Thomas Vargo was last heard from on March 9th, 1976, when he was 20 years of age. I read a Facebook post about what constituted his last-known contact and evidently, he withdrew from classes at the University of Texas at Austin on that date. This individual has now been missing for 45 years as of the original publication date of this blog post.

Brian Vargo had a chipped front tooth. That distinctive characteristic is part of his skeletal system and would be a part of any post-mortem remains under most circumstances. I looked for someone with a chipped tooth in the NamUs John Does but did not find anyone that I felt was Brian Vargo.

What you can do to help with this case, is do a similar search. John Does get added to the database all the time. If you are reading this more than three months after publication (March 4th, 2021), then go to NamUs and do a new search for "chipped and tooth" ("and" is a boolean operator with the site) in the unidentified person database. Follow this link and scroll down to Distinctive Physical Features. In order for any John Doe that comes up to possibly be Brian, the body would have to be found after the date Brian was last heard from.

What stands out with this case, is the wallet. What does it mean for the wallet to be in his apartment but for him not to be?

Individuals that go out into public without their wallets are actually at increased risk of becoming John Does. There have been many individuals that have been hit by cars without their wallets that have died and not been identified or not been identified for decades. Getting hit by a car without your wallet is one mishap that can make you a John Doe. There are many others.

For this case, I read a lengthy post at the Facebook group dedicated to finding this missing person. I gleaned the following details about Brian from that group:
  • He drank alcohol
  • He used marijuana
  • He received a citation for having a small amount of marijuana and it's mentioned that he was on probation at some point
  • He seemed to have a "nicotine habit" at one point that he was trying to beat
  • In the Fall of 1975, he started to do poorly in school after making the Dean's List at previous times
  • He talked about finding himself and clearing his head
  • He was evidently having back troubles as he went to a chiropractor on February 27th, 1976
I think the balance of reasonable conjecture would suggest that he was secretly depressed. Things did not seem to be going well for him at all. Additional to the problems above, his car recently broke down as per the NamUs description. None of these problems are all that bad but for someone having a difficult time, they could all be compiling. You have to wonder about the proverbial straw that breaks the camel's back.

As for finding him, I recommend looking for a John Doe with the following:
  • A chipped front tooth
  • Body found after March 9th, 1976 with no wallet or ID
  • A John Doe that is believed to have been dead since March of 1976
  • Reasonable proximity to Colorado, Austin, and Houston are all in play

Susan Redding -- Missing from Georgia Since 1981

Details from NamUs**
Susan left Washington and returned to Georgia in 1975. She was last seen by family at her mother's home and there is no information to indicate she went back to Washington State. She was last heard from when she called her mother and grandmother’s homes in the mid-1980s, prior to her father's death in 1987.
Missing Person: Susan Redding (no legal middle name)
Parents: Frank and Margaret Redding (according to a person I interviewed online that claimed to be the MP's sister)
Might go by: Curly, Sue (doesn't go by Randy according to Susan's sister; NAMUS says she did go by Randy, in contrast)
Last-seen: April 8th, 1975 (inconsistent as per sources; other source says 1981, sister says 1975)
Last-contact: there's a suggestion in the NamUs description that this person was known to be alive in the early 1980s because of a phone call
The area where the MP was last seen: Decatur, Georgia, but the missing person had links to Seattle, Washington
Link to government source: NamUS #MP20630

VITAL DETAILS

Ethnicity: Black, African American
Sex: Female
Age at time of disappearance: 16 years old
Birthdate: April 8th, 1959 in Griffin, Spaulding County, Georgia
Hair: Black, often wore a wig
Eyes: Brown
Scar: Above right eye
Height/weight: 5-foot-4 and 105 to 115 pounds
BMI*: Susan Redding was in the normal range for BMI.
  • BMI is body mass index. It relates to an individual's height and weight. I include it believing it can help picture a missing person or describe one.
Tattoos: Susan Redding did not have any tattoos associated with her profiles. If you know this to be a mistake, then please contact this site.

Susan Redding's "last-seen" date is not clear. Some sources say she went missing on her birthday in 1975, however, her NamUs profile specifies the last contact of 1981.

An individual who identified as Susan's sister contacted me on August 24th, 2021. She said that Susan was last seen on April 8th, 1975 in Decatur, Georgia. The sister of Susan said that Susan was going to the dry cleaners. She was in the company of an older white man. There was, according to Susan's sister, some kind of dispute between this man and one of Susan's brothers because of the age gap between Susan and the man. Susan may have been a prostitute at this point in her life, according to the sister. She had recently gone through some changes in terms of her personal style.

NAMUS says Susan may have been heard from in the mid-1980's via a phone call (but not after 1987). The date she was last seen and the date she was last heard from can certainly be different. However, this is a case where the details are not really ironed out.

Susan's sister said that the phone call was placed to the grandmother's home shortly after the grandmother's death. The death of the grandmother occurred in October 1982 and the phone call would have been in the days afterward. The call was answered by a now-deceased aunt. According to the sister, Susan may have hung up the phone when she heard the mother's voice in the background. Susan appeared to be calling to discuss the death of her grandmother but Susan was estranged from her mother and that's a possible explanation as to the abrupt phone call ending.

Nonetheless, that Susan learned of the grandmother's death suggests that she was in the verbal grapevine of a family member still as there wasn't social media back in the 1980s or even Internet. When someone died, you usually learned from a family member or the newspaper obituaries with the former being more likely, in my opinion. What this case sounds like, in my opinion, is a voluntary disappearance that has resulted in an unclear fate and there are family members who would like answers.

What stands out with this case, is the fact that she often wore a wig. If you are looking among the Jane Doe databases for this missing person, then any Jane Doe that was found with a wig can be cross-referenced against Susan's profile. That would involve looking at the date of death versus Susan's date of disappearance, her height, and other considerations.

The missing person did not have any articles or items associated with her missing person's reports, at least of the ones that I consulted. That probably has something to do with the fact that her missing-date details are not very clear at all.

I was not able to find a missing person journalist article at Newspapers.com. Websleuths looking at this missing person could do their own search to see if they can locate one. Furthermore, it would help to know this missing person's middle name as there are a lot of other people named Susan Redding, even with a similar birth year.

If you know where this person might be or have any information on this case, then please contact the authorities. In the USA, you can look for the NamUs profile. Conversely, you can post a remark to this article.

Birthdate: About February 1997
Hair: Brown
Eyes: Brown
Scar: None indicated
Height/weight: 5-foot-4 and 140 pounds

  • At the original time of publication, there was no photo available for this person. If one isn't found, then rely on BMI, height, weight, ethnicity, and other physical features to describe or picture the person.
Symone Kylie Flowers, a missing person, was last heard from on March 1st, 2019 when she was 22 years old. This individual has now been missing for 2 years as of the original publication date of this blog post.

The description from NamUs depicts an adventurous and youthful person that appeared to have plans to travel. Whether she settled somewhere else or whether she suffered some kind of mishap during her travels is something that Websleuths or amateur investigators can try to shed some light on. The NamUs profile is not a strong one for looking at Jane Doe profiles due to an absence of distinctive characteristics, clothing, and personal items.

In my research on this case, I did find a lead. This has been reported to NamUs. Feel free to inquire as to the status of this lead, however, the details I have decided not to publish in case this is a voluntary disappearance. Adults can choose to disappear if they would like to.

Cellastine Wade, a missing person, was last heard from on April 26th, 1968 when she was 18 years old.
She has now been missing for 53 years as of the original publication date of this blog post.

One detail, in this case, is that she went missing in 1968 and yet her profile was not uploaded to NamUs until February 2021. That's an enormous gap and it can't be ignored. It's possible that she is among the known Jane Does of America already. However, there is not a lot to go on for cross-referencing her case to Jane Does. She could match up to many with the details that have been provided.

This promises to be a difficult case for Websleuths or amateur investigators. The missing person did not have any articles or items associated with her in the missing person's reports that I consulted.

I was not able to find her in Ancestry easily. Nor did her exact name produce any hits in Newspapers.com. I did find a couple people that I thought might have been relatives, however, I'm not certain as to that status either. I think this case takes on new life for Websleuths or amateur investigators if a family member that knows details of Cellastine opens up about them.

For lack of details on this case, I decided to use Grok for information (X's AI tool/March 6th, 2025). The bot admits that there are sparse details available on this case. I decided to use the cross-out feature to eliminate things that I didn't like while still leaving it readable to the reader. So note, that the crossouts are added details.

"Long-Shot Lead:
    • Cellastine Wade may have been connected to an unidentified workplace incident or transient population tied to Jersey City’s industrial scene in 1968.
    • Potentially linked to a Jane Doe case in a neighboring state.
  • Basis:
    • NamUs states she was last seen “by family after work” on April 26, 1968.
    • Jersey City in 1968: a hub of factories, warehouses, and shipping (e.g., textile mills, chemical plants, Colgate’s waterfront facility).
    • Cellastine, 18, from a working-class background (1950 census: 629 Grand Street), likely worked a low-wage job nearby.
    • “After work” might hint at more than a casual detail—possible trouble (accident, predator, or spontaneous decision) tied to her workplace or commute.
    • No foul play noted; JCPD may have assumed voluntary departure.
    • Photo’s survival (via NamUs API) suggests family insisted something was wrong.
  • The Stretch:
    • Jersey City’s location near highways (e.g., Route 1/9 to Holland Tunnel) and rail lines made vanishing—or being taken—across state lines feasible.
    • Long-shot angle: check unidentified remains from 1968–1970 in nearby states (New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio) where transient workers/runaways surfaced.
    • Example: Jane Doe found 1969 in Columbia County, NY (120 miles north)—young Black woman, 16–20, no origin, speculated on Websleuths as a Cellastine match.
    • No DNA/dental link yet, but timing and “after work” clue could fit if she hitched a ride or was trafficked post-shift.
  • Why It’s a Long Shot:
    • No evidence pins her to a specific job or confirms she left Jersey City.
    • JCPD likely limited investigation to local inquiries in ‘68—cold case inertia and under-resourcing typical for a Black teen’s disappearance then.
    • Photo shows family persistence, but no 1968 workplace records (e.g., factory logs) or witnesses make it a needle-in-a-haystack scenario.
    • Jersey City’s industrial churn produced many missing persons—some ending as unidentified Does elsewhere.
