When people are missing for several years as this person has been, some of their distinctive characteristics may no longer be relevant as identifiers. This is because many distinctive characteristics such as scars, birthmarks, or tattoos may be lost as identifiers through putrefaction if the person has died.

I was not able to find much journalistic coverage of this disappearance. However, Rita Hughes is in Ancestry. I think this is a record of her divorce, which appears to have been done in absentia about 9 years after she disappeared. For some further online reading, I recommend this blog post which claims to be from a family member: Rita Mae Midkiff-Hughes. The post stated that Rita's son last saw her in the passenger seat of a vehicle that his stepdad was driving. I've presumed that's the trip to the bus station but don't that.

De Qian Rang has not been seen since April 20th, 1992 when she was 29 years old. Of the resource I consulted, the DoeNetwork page for this missing person had the best description of circumstances surrounding this disappearance. That site discussed "a stormy relationship" with her husband, "extramarital affairs," the husband not filing a report of her missing but friends having to do it instead, and the husband's arrest in 1993 followed by his acquittal in December 1994.

This individual has now been missing for about 29 years as of the original publication date of this blog post. I wasn't able to locate any newspaper coverage for this case, nor did the missing person produce a hit in Ancestry. However, those databases update from time to time. If you have access to the Elora Sentinel, then that might be where you get some hits.

The following Youtube video contains information about the case, including newspaper articles that aren't available with my memberships. The information in the video seems to be derived from the same source as the DoeNetwork description.

"Leventhal was last seen by her husband at 23:30 on August 21, 1991, driving her 1991 blue 4 door Volvo, VIN number: YV2JA894OMA029773, Louisiana Tag 955X356. A possible direction of travel could be Louisiana where she possesses an RN License. She grew up in Ruston, after attending A.E. Phillips School, Ruston High School, and Louisiana Tech University, she had married a successful doctor and moved to Naples, FL. with her two children from her previous marriage. The family was doing well and Patty, a registered nurse, had volunteered her time as a school nurse at her children's school. Wednesday, August. 21, 1991, Patty returned to her home after church choir practice. She and her husband were relaxing in the Jacuzzi when she left to go get a cola. She never came back. Collier County sheriff's deputies found her Blue 1991 Volvo in the parking lot of an apartment complex a short while after her disappearance. No fingerprints or clues of any kind were found. All of Patty's credit cards were monitored for activity. There was none after her disappearance."

Patricia Patterson Leventhal has not been seen since August 21st, 1991 when she was 32 years old. This individual has now been missing for 30 years as of the original publication date of this blog post. The missing person did not have any articles or items associated with her missing person's reports, at least of the sources that I consulted.

What stands out to me, in this case, is that her car was found in the area of the Fountain View Apartments on North Airport-Pulling Road. This vehicle was seemingly dusted for fingerprints and none were found. That the vehicle may have been wiped clean for fingerprints is an issue to me. What exactly happened isn't clear, however, it seems to suggest that something of a clandestine nature took place. Furthermore, if she voluntarily disappeared then she did leave behind two children.

The NamUs description of the disappearance didn't mention that she disappeared after an argument.

Betty’s husband/Holly’s father reported Betty took Holly and left their home at approximately 1:00 a.m. Betty told her husband that she was leaving the state but did not say where she was going. An unknown vehicle drove up and to pick Betty and Holly up. Betty went back inside the home to grab her clothes and then left. Betty and Holly have not been seen or heard from since."

Betty Loggins Emmett, a missing person, was last heard from on October 27th, 1977 when she was 36 years old. This individual has now been missing for 44 years as of the original publication date of this blog post.

This was a case without many details available. The missing person's name did not show up in the newspaper archive searches that I performed. There is an online discussion of this individual's case at the Websleuths forum. Identifying the husband, in this case, would be interesting, however, I wasn't able to do that confidently at Ancestry.

At the time of original publication, there is one other case on this blog that involved a mother and a daughter going missing at the same time. I like to compare and contrast unrelated cases as food for thought. In the case of Tina Marie Sinclair and Bethany Anne Sinclair, the individuals are considered dead even without bodies, and foul play is suspected. I use the hashtag "daughter and mother missing" to describe blog posts where a daughter and a mother have simultaneously gone missing.

Shannon Marie Hawkins, a missing person, was last heard from on July 31st, 2010 when she was 35 years old. This is a case where details are not included with NamUs. Accordingly, it's necessary to look at other sources in order to find information on this missing person.

According to one source, this person had a history of leaving her family home for long periods of time (staugustine.com). However, the best description of the events surrounding this person's disappearance was at CharleyProject.org. According to that website, this is a person that was having mental-health problems leading up to her disappearance. The following points should be noted of Shannon Marie Hawkins:

• She was previously hospitalized for depression;
• She had a history of suicide attempts;
• Her husband felt that she was "uneasy" the last time he saw her;
• She called a mental-health hotline the night before she disappeared;
• She wrote in a personal journal that she wanted to commit acts of self-harm in a wooded area behind her home and expressed pessimism about living to see the age of 36.

I was interested in looking at the wooded area behind her home on Google Maps. I was able to find this missing person's exact street address. I am not publishing it here but I feel like I know the wooded area that she was talking about. It would be at Google Maps coordinates 30.080773011684176, -81.61199853938336.

It doesn't look that large but it seems like the area had several wooded areas, some larger and some smaller than the one directly behind her house. Furthermore, there are small lakes or ponds in the area.

What stands out with this case, is that she disappeared 11 years ago. If the clue to her whereabouts in her journal is true, then there is a question as to why she has not yet been found. However, my inclination is that she is, in fact, close to her home still.

One article I read at CBS News indicated that police dogs were used to search the area but to no avail. She did not take a vehicle with her so reasonable walking distance might be the best-continued search area. Even after police supposedly scour an area, it doesn't actually mean that a missing person isn't there. There have been many cases where missing people have shown up in an area that was already searched. However, I think she simply took a longer walk than what the police originally assumed.
