Epstein: A Case for Murder – New Crave Documentary Examines Jeffrey Epstein’s Death

New Crave Documentary Examines Jeffrey Epstein's Death

By: Shane Lambert | Published: August 19th, 2026

A new Crave documentary is set to revisit one of the most controversial deaths in recent American history. Epstein: A Case for Murder will reexamine the final 35 days of Jeffrey Epstein's life while presenting a case that his death was not suicide, but a calculated killing. At first glance, this does not appear to be a radical opinion on the matter of Epstein's death since a lot of people already think this. It may be interesting to see if the documentary offers anything new on the matter.

Epstein's death could fit into the "staged suicide" murder model. Staging a suicide is a known technique for trying to cloak a murder. Someone who does this is attempting to deflect attention away from the murder itself by having it as a suicide. The tag "staged suicide" is not well-used on my blog but did make an appearance in relation to a forensic article examining blood spatter, the absence of it, and how that affected the assessment of a crime where there was a debate about whether the person was killed or had killed himself.

Who Was Jeffrey Epstein?

Jeffrey Epstein was an American financier and convicted sex offender whose relationships with wealthy and influential people attracted widespread attention. In 2019, federal prosecutors arrested him on sex-trafficking charges involving underage girls.

Epstein died in the summer of 2019. He was found dead in his Manhattan jail cell on August 10, 2019, while awaiting trial. The 35 days mentioned in the docuseries description appear to be the time frame from his arrest to his death.

Epstein is the person referenced in the phrase "The Epstein Class," which is sometimes used in modern politics to describe those who are so elite in society that they can seemingly get away with anything, as many feel that Epstein's convictions did not lead to proportionate punishments.

EPSTEIN: A CASE FOR MURDER – Crave

EPSTEIN: A CASE FOR MURDER is a gripping two-part documentary that reexamines the final 35 days of Jeffrey Epstein’s life, building a provocative case that his death was not suicide—but a calculated killing. Through a ticking clock structure, exclusive interviews, and forensic analysis, the series pieces together missing evidence, suspicious coincidences, and firsthand accounts from insiders, investigators, and experts. As each layer is uncovered, the docudrama explores the powerful forces, hidden connections, and unanswered questions at the centre of what many believe is the cover-up of the century. Barry and Honey Sherman Murders: New Dead of Winter Documentary Series Announced

Barry and Honey Sherman Murders: New Dead of Winter Documentary Revisits the Unsolved Case

The murders of Barry and Honey Sherman stand among the most prominent unsolved crimes in modern Canadian history. What makes the case particularly remarkable is that the Shermans' immense wealth has led to national attention regarding their murders, which many victims of crime never receive. There is also an enormous reward for information leading to justice. Yet, nearly nine years after their deaths, the murders remain unsolved.

Dead of Winter: Bell Media's Docuseries

Now, nearly nine years after the killings, a new true-crime documentary series is set to revisit the case. Dead of Winter has been announced as a three-part Crave docuseries that will examine the murders through a new perspective, including the story of Barry Sherman's cousin Kerry Winter, whom Bell Media describes as a former prime suspect.

Background: The Murders of Barry and Honey Sherman

On December 15th, 2017, Barry Sherman, 75, and his wife Honey Sherman, 70, were found dead inside their North York, Toronto home. Barry Sherman founded Apotex, a major generic pharmaceutical company, and the couple was also well known for their philanthropy.

The bodies were discovered in the basement pool area of the mansion. The circumstances immediately attracted attention because the couple had been found together beside the indoor swimming pool, with belts around their necks attached to a railing.

Early reports described the deaths as suspicious. The police initially considered several possibilities, while the Sherman family strongly rejected speculation that the deaths represented a murder-suicide.

Post-mortem examinations determined that both Barry and Honey Sherman died from ligature neck compression. Investigators subsequently determined that the deaths were homicides.

Why the Sherman Murders Were So Difficult to Solve

The case generated enormous public speculation because Barry Sherman had been involved in a highly competitive pharmaceutical industry and numerous legal disputes over the years. However, speculation about possible motives should not be confused with evidence establishing who killed the couple. Even among business people, who are often ruthless in their pursuit of wealth, murder remains a rare event.

The Sherman Murders Investigation

The investigation became one of the largest and most closely watched homicide investigations in Toronto. Police examined the Sherman home, collected witness statements, and reviewed extensive security footage in an effort to establish who had been in the area around the time of the murders. The investigation eventually produced video footage of a person police believed could be connected to the killings.

The Mysterious Walking Person

One of the most intriguing developments in the case came when investigators released surveillance footage showing an unidentified person walking in the area around the time of the murders. The individual was described as being approximately 5'6" to 5'9" tall and having a distinctive manner of walking, although, to be honest, I don't know what exactly makes his walk distinctive. Police appealed to the public for assistance in identifying the person.

The so-called "walking person" became one of the most recognizable pieces of evidence associated with the Sherman murders. Despite extensive investigative work, the person's identity has remained publicly unresolved.

New Dead of Winter Documentary About Barry and Honey Sherman

The Docuseries is a new development around the murders. Bell Media announced in June 2026 that Dead of Winter will be a three-part true-crime docuseries for Crave examining the murders of Barry and Honey Sherman. Bell describes the series as offering a new perspective on the still-unsolved case and says the story will be told through the lens of Barry Sherman's cousin, Kerry Winter.

The June 4th, 2026 announcement makes the documentary particularly notable because Kerry Winter is described by Bell Media as a former prime suspect in the investigation.

When Will Dead of Winter Be Released?

Bell Media has announced Dead of Winter as part of its 2026/27 original-content slate for Crave. The announced format is three episodes of approximately 60 minutes each.

I have not found an official premiere date to report at the time of this update. I therefore would not rely on an unofficial release date unless Bell Media, Crave or the production company subsequently confirms one.
